Press release
February 15, 2005

Andres Guerrero II, spokesperson of Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth), released the following statement on the recent bombings that terrorized Makati, Davao and General Santos cities on Valentines Day.

Kabataang Makabayan strongly condemns the simultaneous terrorist attacks which killed 10 people and injured innocent bystanders.

These violent assaults happened amid the continuing intensification of offensives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Sulu. Thousands were forced to evacuate their homes and neglect their livelihood because of indiscriminate bombings by the AFP.

Instead of heeding the Moro peoples calls for peace, the US-Arroyo regime is hell-bent on annihilating the enemy to recover from obvious embarassment caused by the Moro National Liberation Fronts surprise attack on the AFP.

No political motive can justify the recent bombings. These terrorist attacks do not serve any democratic purpose. It has nothing to do with the Moro peoples struggle for self-determination nor with the Filipino peoples anti-imperialist struggle in general.

Only the US-Arroyo regime has much to gain. This event will only serve to justify state terror and fascism acts to quell the peoples rising discontent with the US-Arroyo regime.

The revolutionary youth are more so angered by the relentless deployment of US troops in the country. The recent spate of attacks will only serve to justify direct US intervention in military operations under the guise of war on terror. ###
