Highway to Hell

Vroom… vroom…vroom!!! Then, you suddenly hear the screeching sound of the wheels. Blaag!!! As you approach the scene, blood is oozing everywhere and a man pleads for help. But, there's nothing you could do. You want to help that person but you can't help him by yourself. Okay… end of the story. So, you thought that I was going to write a short story, huh? Well, you're wrong. So what's the mini story doing here? Well, it's about the Highway to Hell. You probably know that most Filipino drivers do not observe the rules and other enforcements. I also presume that you are aware of the countless accidents that happen with regards to reckless driving every year. With the number of accidents occurring, you may want to ask yourselves on how the hell do they get their driver's license. Moreover, acquiring the driver's license is not the only issue. Another issue is that of the drunk driving, and driving while using the mobile phone, and … would you believe, driving while sleeping as well.

LTO, one of the government bureaus, is receiving lots of bribery money each day. How? Through the fixers of course, so that you'll not have difficulties in acquiring the driver's license. When you take a test, the questionnaire is given to you filled with answers on it. Of course, they will not put all the correct answers there but they do make sure that you'll pass the written exam. In addition to that, practical exam is not given anymore. See how convenient anyone could get? This kind of system is for really sick people.

Another issue is that of drunk driving which I believe has been the one of the major cases of vehicular accidents each year. I know that there are several people doing it and several still have not learned from the outcome of such act. How could you be able to drive safely if you are drunk? Just think of it, it's either that you'll be able to kill yourself, you might kill others unconsciously or both you and others at the same time. To avoid these possible situations, don't drink if you'll drive.

The issue of using the mobile phone while driving is comparable to that of drunk driving. The only difference is that the one who uses mobile phone while driving is conscious but the attention has diverted from driving to the usage of this technogadget. So, who are we going to blame for this techno trend? Is it the irresponsible users or the top hypnotic mobile phone manufacturers like Nokia, Ericcsson, and the like, or even the mobile telecommunication corporations like Globe and Smart? It's not bad to be into this techno trend. The problem is that some mobile phone owners have become irresponsible like some of the gun owners. You have to, keep your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road.

Lastly, driving while sleeping is another issue. Someone I know (let's just hide him in the name of Speedy Gonzales) had encountered this kind of accident. This not happened once, but twice. In the first accident, he became unconscious but he got no fractures of some sort. In the second accident, he did not become unconscious nor did get any wounds or fractures. I guess he will not dare drive when he is feeling groggy anymore. Moreover, he should thank God for keeping him alive despite of the accidents he encountered. I suggest that when you feel groggy when driving, stop-over at a safe place and take a nap for a few minutes, treat yourself to a caffeine overload at a 24-hour convenience store, find a public restroom and wash your face to freshen up, or use a Vicks inhaler if you have one.

Would you rather take a ride with Satan to hell or with Jesus to heaven? If you do not want to go at Highway to Hell, then better be a responsible driver.
