They were arguing, again. Well, Greg was arguing, Elijah was pleading.
All he needed to hear was the sound of Elijah’s cry of pain, and he was through the door.
Sean Bean felt only rage as he saw Elijah on the ground, sitting on his butt, with blood leaking from his bottom lip. He turned to the man responsible, and making a fist, he swung without another thought at that laughing face. Greg, he didn’t know his last name but he was not going to touch Elijah Wood ever again.
The five foot 10 jock, just out of film school, caught the blow on his cheek and hit the ground, landing flat on his back with the wind knocked out of him.
Sean didn’t bother to waste his breath or time with threatening the man; he just turned away and offered a hand to Elijah. Sean had known for some time of the abuse, but this was the first time he had seen it with his own eyes. Astin, Dom, and even Viggo had tried to make Elijah see that this relationship was only headed in one direction. They knew that this new found love interest Elijah had found in New Zealand was no good, especially, when they started seeing the bruises.
But, Elijah wouldn’t listen to anyone. He said the same thing everyone who falls into this type of situation. “It was my fault.” “I provoked it.” No, nothing they said would have Elijah call it quits.
Sean had watched this relationship blossom into more dangerous territory with the bruises getting more frequent. Enough was enough. Sean was no longer willing to sit this out and he was not going to allow it to continue.
The blue eyes stared up at him, dazed and confused, and than he took hold of Sean’s hand and allowed himself to be lifted slowly to his feet.
So many things Sean ached to say, so many things he wanted to tell Elijah. The most important was that staying with this jerk was stupid, that he had to tell Greg to hit the road. Greg was a user, and wanted only to tell his buddies that he had done it with Frodo. Greg didn’t love anyone and most certainly not Elijah.
But, Sean knew that no matter what he said it would not be enough. Elijah had to make up his own mind not to stay in this relationship. And alas, in abusive relationships the victim always returned to the abuser, because he (Or she) had no place else to go. Thinking that no one would ever love them and that they would be alone the rest of their lives.
What could he do?
That was when Sean decided to show Elijah instead of tell him. Very gently, and moving slowly so Elijah could clearly see his intent, he bent down his head and brushed his lips against Elijah’s. He could taste the mint on Elijah’s breath and lips that were just begging to be kissed. Seeing the blood on the bottom lip, Sean made certain to be as gentle as possible. A soft gasp of bewildered surprise from Elijah was his reward.
The impossible blue eyes grew darker and wider if that was possible, and Sean pulled away and started to walk out of the room. Elijah was one of the most beautiful men he had ever laid eyes on. From the very moment he saw Elijah, Sean knew how special he was. Now, if only Elijah knew he was worth so much more than this.
He would never beg, or plead-- but Sean knew this was the moment. It was up to Elijah.
Elijah glanced at Greg, still flat on his back staring at the ceiling, blinking in shock. He would have a large bruise on his left cheek and would have to explain it to his boss at Weta work shop by tomorrow. Elijah seemed to be thinking a million thoughts in that one split moment. But the decision he made in that moment left him no regrets.
He turned and followed Sean.
He was waiting for him outside the door. He held out his hand, and without hesitation Elijah firmly took the offered hand into his won. Sean squeezed firmly, yet gently, and smiled. Elijah hesitated a second, and than slowly smiled in return.
Together, they headed back to the Elijah’s trailer to talk and perhaps even set a few things straight about what real love is all about.
