Nothing but darkness surrounded her. She was lost, alone and filled with despair. Here in her death bed. Old and tired, her body broken. It was time to leave this earth. To end it all. Only here, now at the end of her life, did she understand all the pain and suffering she and her son had caused others. Only now did she suffer regret. So much regret.

Tears fell from her eyes and she wailed in despair. No mercy and compassion would await her on the other side. No amount of begging would give her reprieve. No hope.

Blue-eyes peered down at her and gently one hand, with a missing finger, stroked her hair and the other took hold of her pale and shaking hand.

The face was still so young, smooth and so beautiful. Dark chestnut curls and fine chisled features that were more elf like than hobbit. Those blue eyes however were unmistakable. She fought to catch her breath and sobbed out her guilt.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It is to late though, is it not, to ask you to forgive me for all the years of what I and my family have done to you?"

He shook his head, tears filled his own eyes, and he tried to speak but she turned away from him. She wailed sadly and sobbed even louder.

"I am beyond forgiveness, I will forever stay in the darkness, alone! Oh Lotho, Otho! My loves, my loves how I have wronged so many, Oh Frodo, how I have wronged you. You, who deserved it not! I'm sorry, forgive me, forgive me!"

Gently, Frodo pulled the older woman into his arms, and holding her head close to his chest, he lay a kiss gently on her forehead.

"Aunt Lobelia, nay, no one is beyond forgiveness. Do not linger in the darkness, that is not where you belong. I, too, have my own guilt and regret. If I can be forgiven, then so can you. Hear me well, I forgive you. Rest and go in peace."

Hearing those words, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins's turned and looked up at Frodo questioningly. Frodo smiled sadly and repeated the same words again. A wave of relief fell over her, and then slowly, a sad smiled crept upon her lips as her eyes began to glaze over. Death was coming for her.

"Thank you." She whispered and when she closed her eyes, she saw not darkness, only the light.

The end.
