1) On August 8-10 we are doing a SCUBA camp at Waterton. We'll
do 3-4 dives total, some on the Gertrude, one or two in Cameron Bay, and
one in the falls. Please let me know ASAP if you will be attending.
2) We are planning a day Canoe trip down the bow river. The date will
be sent out as soon as we finalize our plans.
3) For registration this year you have two options:
a) pay the whole amount (~$110)
b) we'll cover it, but you must work a minimum of 6 tree
shifts. Note that you still get your
personal, and we get our Rover, portion
of these funds. Your registration will come out
of the Pineridge 166's account.
Either way you need to get your registration into Pete ASAP.
4) Due to the large amount of dissatisfaction with Scouts popcorn last year
we will not be doing this as a fund raiser this year.
5) I am in the final stages of making our photo CD's - they should be done
about the second week of July. Cost is $2, however this will just come
out of group funds. Don't forget: you have until Canada day to get
your pictures to me!
6) We are closing in on our plans for our February dive trip. But
there is still a lot of work to be done. At this point we have about
6 locations in the final runnings. Pete and I are looking into specifics
for the individual sites, but here's the "finalists":
a) Dive lodge in Maui
b) Belize
c) Dive shop housing in Cozumel
d) Rotan (Honduras), 2 potential locations
e) Live-aboard through Bahaman's, out of Miami
f) there was others, but I cannot remember them now...
We expect that the cost will be around $2000 CND per person, fund-raising
will cover some of this (actual portion unknown). So start saving.
On the note of funding, we may be able to get some extra from group committee,
either under international travel, or just because 166 is dying and we don't
want to turn over out $$$ to Scouts Canada.
We are planning on inviting some of the group committee members as well
(i.e. Beth & Ken). The issue of spouses/significant others has
not yet been resolved, but it looks like brining them will be more difficult
then the effort is worth (plus we'd have to behave).
For those of you who are in post-secondary, we need to know when your winter
session reading break is. Because UofC and SAIT's rarely overlap we'll
probably plan our trip so it covers part of both. Please get me those
dates ASAP. If you don't we'll just schedule the trip whenever we feel
like it.
Please note that we will be making the hotel/dive shop bookings in September,
and you will have to make a personal deposit if you are going to attend. We
are trying to get a ruff idea as to numbers, so please let me know if you're
planning on coming ASAP.
Lastly, because we are going to be travelling internationally, you all need
current passports. If you don't have a valid passport you need to get
one. Yes, Canadians can travel to many of these nations without a passport,
but it's easier and better to have one.
