Mark has come back, but is now a rover instead of a venture.
Dominique has joined our crew. He's come all the way from the Peace
River area!
Popcorn is coming up, and we're running the show:
Cody is in charge overall, and is also responsible for keeping the ventures
on track
Tim and Bryan are taking care of the Scouts
Bob is taking care of the cubs and beavers
Christmas tree's are also around the corner:
The tree's are expected to come in during the Nov 22-24 weekend, so be
prepared.
Lot setup is Dec 1st weekend. We have a camphost that weekend as
well, so we'll be setting up the lot the sunday, on our way back from Camp
Gardener
Expect to work 3-4 shifts, as the other sections lack members. Bob'll
make sure we get 1st choice of shifts, so you should be able to work around
school schedules.
Camp Hosts:
We have 2 camphosts scheduled at this time.
The first is October 18-20
We're planning on knighting those of you who are ready at this camp.
Please try to make it, even if it's just for half a day.
The second is the December 1-3.
As mentioned previously this camp overlaps tree lot setup, so be prepared
to setup the lot sunday after camp.
Besides our two new members we may have an additional 1-2 rovers who may
be joining the crew. Bryan is contacting one rover, who is a "lone
rover" in one of the other properties. Tim or Pete are in contact
with the second rover.
We are getting rid of the Rover camping equipment since we usually use
our personal equipment:
ropes and cutlery are being donated to Camp Gardener.
stoves, pots/pans and any other valuables are being combined with the Venture's
equipment, and we'll share that troop box with them.
The damaged tent's, as well as the ark, have been disposed of.
Scout Camp: we are taking the scouts on a pioneering camp the first weekend
in October:
We're making our own shelters, cooking over a fire, etc. tonnes-o-fun!
The camp is in the backcountry, 1-2km into the bush along powderface trail,
by where it meets powderface road.
We need permission forms and physical fitness forms from all youth who
wish to attend
We leave Calgary Saturday at 9AM, come back sometime Sunday.
All Rovers are welcome
SCUBA:
It looks like SCUBA is finished for the year >:-( - unless
the lakes are not hard come the end of October...
We need to start thinking about getting our new members certified.
The UofC has their NAUI program up again, so we'll probably get them certified
then.
We'll try to make 2 or so splashes at adventures this winter.
Were also looking into evening trips to forget-me-not ponds and dives at
SAIT
Elections were held this meeting. The results are:
President: Tim (incumbent)
Vice President: Dominique (formally held by Shaun)
Secretary: Bryan (incumbent)
Treasurer: Ryan (incumbent)
Group committee is in two weeks (october 7th). Please try to come.
We have decided to get a bank account for the crew. This'll allow
us to accumulate funds without the prying eyes of group committee.
The second advantage is that it'll help us save for future "super trips".
Super Trip:
We are planning another super trip for the winter of 2004 (i.e. reading
break). The plan is to go somewhere tropical and dive. At this
point we are in the initial stages of planning. Keep your eye's open.
If you come across any cool places let us know!
Activities for this upcoming year:
SCUBA trips (local dives, splashes, etc.).
Biking
Backpacking
Snowshoe camp (with scouts?)
Canoeing
Pub Crawls, er "social events"
Laser Tag
Paint Ball
Ralley Races
Others - if you think of anything let the group know!
Knighting:
With the acceptation of our to new members most of yo should be ready to
be knighted. The plan is to knight you at the next camp host.
If you need another copy of the vigil e-mail Bryan and he'll get you a
copy.
Berets:
We need to order new berets for our new members, as well as Cody and Darcy
who don't have theirs yet.
Bryan is looking into pricing, and will look at other sources besides Glendale
We'll see if group will cover all costs.
Tim will get the R.S. pins
