  Field Characteristics:

  Wing Span: 26 to 34mm.

This is an easily distinguishable butterfly. The wings are narrow and pointed and hind wing has large lobe with two tails, the lower being longer than the upper. The underside of the wing is light yellow with brilliant red stripes or bands. These bands are surrounded by thin black line on either sides and also have silver streaks at the center.

  Distribution and Habitat:

  Found almost everywhere in almost all habitats. Occurs primarily in open areas. Prefers natural vegetation. Common in deciduous areas.

 Activity: Active throughout the year.

Habits:

This butterfly is a powerful but reluctant flier. It is very swift and hence difficult to track. It is territorial in nature and chases away trace passing butterflies.

Food:

Feeds on flower nectar and also bird droppings.

  Host Plants: Ber. Caterpillers are attended by ants constantly displaying symbiotic relationship.
