Scientific name: Neptis hylas Moore

  Field Characteristics:

  Wing Span: 50 to 60 mm.

Wings are black with two white bands made up of spots. Underside is chestnut. The body is brown and metallic green. Both sexes look alike.

Distribution and Habitat:

Commonly found in wooded and hilly country. Also ventures into human habitations.

  Activity: It is active throughout the year. Not very common in the summer.

  Habits:

This butterfly has a graceful sailing flight. It flies around effortlessly with wings spread flat. Flicks the wings occasionally during flight.

  This Butterfly always sits with it’s wings spread flat. However wings are folded while roosting.

  Food:

Feeds on flower nectar.

Host plant: Red Silk Cotton.
