Common Emigrant

Scientific name: Cantopsilia pomona Fabricius
This is a common butterfly seen in all habitats except wet evergreen forests. Commonly seen in city gardens.
Activity: It is most common in monsoons and immediate post monsoons.
This butterfly can be seen basking in the mornings with wings folded over the back and slightly tilted to face the sun. It is a powerful flier. It flies with erratic ups and downs and unpredictable jerks. In summers, it can be seen at wet places, mud puddling in large numbers.
This butterfly
feeds on nectar and also visits wet patches of soil. Garden flowers such as
lantana and herbs like coat button. This butterfly uses Laburnum trees as host
plants.
