Make up your Internet  Fast   :-

                    Normally Downloading  WebPages takes more time when the system configuration is less ( i.e.  Pentium - I system ). To get faster access in those systems is quite simple. In Internet pictures consume  more time to download, so if  we disable an option, the pictures will not be downloaded. Hence the browsing speed can be increased.

      TIPS :

          Internet Explorer » Tools » Internet options »  Advanced » Show Pictures

( Disable the Show Pictures check box under the Multimedia subdivision, so none of the  pictures will not be downloaded.  If  you want to view any picture, Right Click at the Icon where picture has to be opened and give Show picture. Now the picture will be displayed)

               START       =>  SHUTDOWN

  •  Log off

  • Restart

  • Shutdown

  • Hibernate

                         Hibernate mode  writes all Main Memory  information  to  the  Hard Disc Drive, then turns the computer  off.  The  next time you turn on  the computer, the Main Memory  reads the information  from  the  Hard Disc Drive  and  Windows  is restored to the same condition , with the same applications, documents open.

                         How to enable Hibernation mode

 From the Start => Settings => Control Panel => Power Management.

Disabling Autocomplete Feature in IE5

         The Autocomplete feature may be useful while filling out forms and usernames, but it also allows other users to know your username and then probably guess your password also. When the Autocomplete function is active, some sites, search engines and entry fields retain the words you've entered.

          To turn off this feature, in the Internet Options dialog box, click the content tab, Next, click the AutoComplete button in the Personal Information section to display the Autocomplete Settings window.  Uncheck the 'Forms' and 'Usernames and Passwords on Forms' Boxes.

Running Scandisk on Boot Up (Windows 9x)

                  If Windows 9x is shutdown incorrectly, or the  power is turned off without shutting down, the system will attempt to run Scandisk on the next boot. You can control it to run or not by prompting during bootup. To enable it, change the attributes of MSDOS.SYS to null,  so it is not 'Read Only'.(MSDOS.SYS is found in the root directory of your C:\ drive.)

 Open the file using Notepad or EDIT in MS-DOS.

Change the value of 'AutoScan=' to:

AutoScan=0 : Scandisk is Disabled
AutoScan=1 : Scandisk Prompts First (Default setting)
AutoScan=2 : Scandisk Runs Automatically

Changes will take place on the next reboot.

Note:

  •  It is advisable to run Scandisk after an incorrect shutdown to avoid file corruption.

  • This feature is only available on Windows 95 OSR 2 and greater.

Show the Windows Boot Menu (Windows 95/98/Me)

Windows does not display the boot menu normally unless a key is pressed during bootup (F8 for Windows 95 or CTRL for 98/Me). The boot menu allows you to selectively boot Windows in different modes, including Safe Mode and Command Prompt Mode.

Change the attributes for MSDOS.SYS so it is not 'Read Only', MSDOS.SYS is found in the root directory of your C:\ drive. Open the file using Notepad or another text editor (not Microsoft Word or any word processor).

Settings:

Change the value of 'BootMenu=' to

BootMenu=1 for Enabling Bootmenu

BootMenu=0 for Disabling Bootmenu (default)

If the boot menu is enabled you can control how long it waits before continuing to boot with the 'BootMenuDelay=' option. Set 'BootMenuDelay=' to the amount of time to wait in seconds. i.e.

'BootMenuDelay=5'

would wait 5 seconds before continuing to load Windows.

Changes will take place on the next reboot.

Expand and Contract Folders With Ease (All Versions)

It could be a time-consuming process to expand a folder by clicking on the (+) for each and every sub-directory in Windows Explorer and Windows Registry.  This tip lets you expand and contract with one keystroke.

Simply highlight the parent folder you wish to expand and press

' * '  (asterix on the keypad) and all the sub folders will expand out,

' - '  (minus on the keypad) and they'll all contract back again,

' + ' ( plus on the keypad) and it will expand only the current folder.
