| You don't throw a whole life away - just because it's banged up a little. The following story will warm your heart. |
| These pics are all of "Lucky" our Beagle. Lucky was born with all the right parts, - but the Mother dog had her litter under a large round bale of hay she had burrowed out a spot in and when Lucky was around 2 weeks old he was so active that by his wiggling, he managed to get weeds wrapped around his right front paw, which ultimately cut the circulation off until it was discovered. Unfortunately the damage had already been done and despite the Vet's attempt to restore normal blood flow--his little paw had to come off. We ended up taking him from his Mother to keep the wound clean and kept him in a playpen in our home when he wasn't being cuddled and bottle fed. Thus began the very deep bond between him and the rest of our family,--but especially between Lucky and our daughter Lauren who was 12 at the time. She spent her entire summer catering to his every need and nurtured him back to health. In fact that's how he got the name "Lucky". Today Lucky is a very happy, well adjusted 5 year old and despite the challenges he faces,--he is the best doggone Rabbit dog this side of the Missouri River! |
