Reflections

Evening.  The wind whispers outside, as it rustles the dead leaves on the trees.  It moans softly as if in preparation of winter coming.  The shadows are pushed backed as the soft lights gather in pools about the room.
All is quiet now.  The days necessities and trials and joys are done.  Its a time of reflection.
The warmth of the flickering fire dispels the coming of winter and the distinct chill that is now felt outside.  Rufus lies outstretched in front of the fire.  Shogun in a classic Setter position lies next to my chair.  His head is resting on his paws.  Freeway has decided to forego the floor and lays nearby on the loveseat.  The newest edition to the family, Ali lays mostly on my lap, snoring.
At this time of remembering all that we find to be thankful for at the full bellies and the sleek coats of well cared for and well loved animals.  As we look upon our animals with cherished eyes, let us take this time to think of all those that are less fortunate and make the decision, to make a difference in their lives.
Not next year, not next week, but tomorrow.
As winter approaches there are many animals that whether they have homes or not, do not have the love and care of a warm house, or nourishing food to sustain them throughout the winter.  Neglect is rampant in the winter, more so during this season than any other.
As you rub the silkiness of your dogs ear, as you watch your well fed dog laying before the flickering warmth of a fire.  His health reflected in the glow of his coat remember all those unwanted animals left to die or manage on their own this winter.
Remember to spay and neuter all your pets.  Promote this anytime and anyplace you can.  Tell this to anyone that will listen.  Complacency has caused a national problem of animals being put to death at tremendous numbers; we are becoming a nation of puppy and kitten killers because of our selfish excesses.
If you cant find the time to donate at a shelter, or are just too kind hearted for lifes harsh realities, then please donate money to your local shelter.
Lets vow to make a difference in the future of all pets.
There is no greater love than the love given to its owner by a beloved pet.  Shouldnt all pets have a chance to be someones beloved pet?
