Deputy Chuck Jones (me) and Ulan (the Dog) pronounced (you-lawn) are The Hancock County Sheriffs first ever K-9 Unit. Ulan is a two year old German Shepherd born in Holland,  After being imprinted, he was imported to Tarheel Canine in Sanford N.C.to finish up his Narcotics and evidence training. We obtained him in July 99 and are continuing his training on a daily basis. He is an outstanding narcotics and evidence detection dog and is accelling at tracking and criminal apprehension. I work with him every day to improve on anything we can and to stay sharp.
   Ulan has a very good personality and is very good around children and non-aggresive adults. He is only aggressive when I tell him to be or he scences a need to be.
   We have made a lot of  narcotics busts that we wouldnt have been able to make without him and 3 apprehensions. That doesnt sound like a whole lot, but for this small community I think its pretty impressive.
