I'm off to Sioux Falls this weekend--so Flashback Friday is a day early this week. This weeks FlashBack is:
Glory's Galaxy To The Stars, CD, CGC "Rae"
Rae was my very first Collie. She spent her first 11 months in a kennel and wasn't very well socialized but I wanted an AKC registered dog to do AKC events with and she just spoke to my heart. Rae was a challenge from day one. She "ate" my recliner which prompted my first use of a crate. She would run and hide every time the phone rang and getting her used to stairs was a huge ordeal. Rae wasn't the dog for obedience but we got her thru her CD in 5 attempts and were happy to have her at least stay in the ring with me and not run for cover. She went thru an agility class to help boost her confidence but I knew that she would never be an agility dog. She liked to work sheep, but when I tried to actually train her to do what I asked she shut down, so no herding dog for her either.
So Rae wasn't my AKC event dog and that's okay, she had other wonderful qualities, like the way she was always there to cuddle with and no matter what greated me with a huge smile and wagging tail. Rae helped raise Cooper and until the day that she died they were the closest of buddies. Rae started my love of the breed--I think she did her job just fine.
