Maiwae Collies
WHAT'S GOING ON AT MAIWAE COLLIES?
WATERLOO

What a weekend!  Aside from some awful fog on Sunday a.m., the weather cooperated and even gave us 70 and sun on Sunday!  I love a show where you can go and have a big group of friends all showing together and this was another special weekend for that.  Okay, so it was a typical dog show weekend, but when you are with friends it's always special.

Jam and I did not qualify in Rally Excellent on Sat.  Apparently he has a new love of the high jump and well, after he took it out of order things went rapidly downhill.  We'll try again at Key City.  Dora was the surprise Rally dog of the day--she did Rally Novice on Sunday and qualified with a 4th place!  Dora hates obedience, she sees no reason to have to be on a leash, in heel position and even treats don't get her perked up.  2 more legs and she's done with obedience.  I can't stand working dogs that hate a particular venue.  Dora can work on agility-she likes that.

I took Trace and Spice out for the fun match on Sat. night.  They are such wonderfully outgoing, confident, personable puppies.  We encountered no problems at all and you would have thought they had been in the ring countless times.  There was a lot of bounciness and playing and that's what fun matches are for.  Spice was the only Collie puppy, but she did also get a fun match herding puppy Group 4.  Trace and his sister, Meaka had a wee of a time.  I don't know, that Trace is just a born show dog, or maybe just a born people person.  He made goo-goo eyes at anyone that would take a second to look at him.  He and Meaka found a group of kids and that was it, Jean and I couldn't drag them away from the little ones.  Grandma Jean had pics taken of Trace and Meaka--I cannot wait to see them.  There were puppy fun match pics taken too, now if I can find time to drop off the film....

After the show and unloading the van it was so nice out I set up the agility equipment and worked on Dora's wrapping turns on the jump.  Jam decided that yep, he can jump and he has a better wrap than Dora.  So I've put him in a basic agility class starting in a few weeks.  Trace and Spice both learned that tunnels mean treats--yep, future agility dogs!

I'm exhausted, obedience class tonight and a 1000 word essay due by Sat., agility on Wed., 10 hours at the second job...but you know what, I wouldn't trade these dog show weekends with people that know how to do dog shows the right way and make it fun to be there.

Until next time...
