Although I have suspected it once or twice and it's been pointed out to me more than once, I am out of my mind. What normal person does three classes of obedience in one night--especially with two puppies? Oh yea, dog people.
I get off of work at 5 p.m., takes me 10 mins if I make the lights to get home, dogs have to be let out and the ones not going to class need to be fed, it's a 30 min. drive to class and they start at 6 p.m. What does this spell class? CHAOS. I start to make a mental list of what needs to be done about the time I whip the van into the drive, (helpful hint--a little bit of Nickleback or classic INXS or Whitesnake really revs you up for the chaso to follow)race into the house, open crates and shove dogs outside to potty. Go back into the house to find Riley and wake him up, he sleeps like the old dog he is, gently shove him out the door. Tear back into the house, change clothes, grab food bowls, try to quietly put dog food in them so Jam doesn't hear me and come ramming into the back door. There will be a future post on that. Let the crew in, standing way back as they bolt thru the door and run for the front porch. Poor dogs, three of them don't get to eat, they get shoved back out the door. Many disgusted looks are thrown my way and I am sure there is plotting going on regarding the future of my socks. Then the fun begins, Jam will go out the gate and wait by the van so no problems there. He'll even jump into the crate with a little treat incentive. Spice and Trace have no clue. Trace is great, he comes when he is called and then sits to be picked up. Spice, well Spice has been spending too much time with Dora and has picked up an attitude about most everything. She looked at me, tossed her head and gave me the little doggy finger. So I chased her down and okay it was not a gentle shove into the crate. Boy do we need class!
Classes were awesome! Trace is not the only short dog, there is a bassett hound puppy in the class YEA! We had puppy play time and he loved that. He already had sit and down, but actually doing them in a new place with all these other dogs around was a test. Trace is a true Cardigan--will work for food! I think next week I'll bring the kong toy too since that is favorite thing in the whole doggy world, for now anyway.
Spice, Spice, Spice...wait I have to find something positive to say. Hahaa, actually she was fine. She is apparently studying to be an actress. While attempting to walk her on a leash, she tried out her damsal in distress routine, when that didn't work she switched to the furry mule, followed quickly by the flopping fish routine. Spice is not a treat motivated dog, so I must remember to bring toys next week.
Got to spend a bit of time working Jam in a new place so that's always good for him. We focused on that dang vibrating rear end. Sahra reminded me that I can talk to him during the stay in Rally Excellent, which is great, but I'm dying to try him out in regular obedience. In May one of my favorite judges is close and so I'm hoping to have him ready to try at least one day. It was a long night, Mary and I went to supper after class and chatted. We don't get to see each other near enough. She almost choked when she saw I had a ROUGH Collie, something about early senility...
I wish this a.m. had gone better. I must have been too tired, I went home and did laundry late and then spent a few minutes working on the essay due this week. I should say also that I broke my glasses yesterday at work and I don't usually wear my contacts at work because it's so dry and I'm on the computer so many hours. So this a.m. I had to put my contacts in. The short version is that I lost my left contact down the drain and then couldn't find another pair. I had to dig around in my travel bag to come up with another. So I was late for work..I think I heard doggy giggling as I went out the door...
Until next time...
