Maiwae Collies
WHAT'S GOING ON AT MAIWAE COLLIES?
Entry for February 6, 2008

Welcome to the Maiwae Collies blog!  You’ve signed on to the website and clicked on the Blog link and so I’m sure your first question is how the heck do you pronounce that??  The answer-“My Way”.  I had an awful time settling on a kennel name for my Collie adventure.  After a few choices that turned out to be already in use or darn close to an existing name, a group of friends and I came up with this one evening.  I’ll admit, the spelling twist came from a few too many adult beverages.  But you have to admit, the name grabs you simply because it’s unique.

I started showing dogs and a friend’s Collies back in 1992.  “Rachel” was the dog and the only point she ever earned I put on her.  Now, in all honesty it had nothing to do with me.  This was definitely a time when the dog won on her merits alone.  I was simply the idiot holding the end of the lead.  It still amazes me how exciting winning a little piece of ribbon with writing on it can be.   And it’s incredibly addictive as well.  I went from one dog to three in a year and half and I’ve been nuts ever since!

So after 16 years of showing, training and breeding dogs where is Maiwae Collies at today?  Well, we are back at the beginning.  All of my original dogs are gone with the exception of “Riley” and the original lineage of breeding dogs is gone too.  I’ve started over with new bloodlines and it’s been incredibly exciting.   I’ve been blessed with the arrival of an ugly brown dog called “Jam”, a dog with oodles of talent and this indefinable ability to make me smile for no reason at all.

I’ll likely use this Blog to share the ups and downs of training and showing and since I tend to get up on my soapbox at regular intervals about  “things that bug me the most” there will no doubt be other longwinded ramblings on any number of topics.  If nothing else this is a great resource for venting my viewpoint and should provide the readers with numerous occasions to chuckle.

Until next time…
