I came into the world in October 1966 in Blackburn, England and grew up in the market town of Guisborough.
In April 1986 I left the North East to go to university. My home for 4 years became London where I spent 6 months a year at Brunel University reading Sociology and Psychology and six months at the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley hospitals training as a psychiatric nurse.
1990 saw me graduate with a degree and a qualification as a Registered Mental Nurse. Uncertain as to what career I wanted to follow I decided to further my academic studies, moving to Bristol to undertake a masters degree in information Technology at the then Bristol Polytechnic. It was here that I met Philip, theman whoI was to marry six years later in July 1996.
In 1991 I finally joined the ratrace, working in the National Health Service in the field of Clinical Audit in Barnsley, London, Sheffield and finally Gateshead, where I continued to work until September 1996. At this time Phil's job relocated, so in October 1996, having sold our home Ifound myself aboard an plane heading for North Carolina, USA.
After 2years ofbeing unable to work I finally obtained a work permit. During my time off I spent a lot of time thinking about what I would like to do should I be able to return to work. For as long as I could remember I had an interest in animal health and wellbeing and decided to pursue that interest. Ireturned to work as aveterinary technician in 1998, and now work at a practice near to home. While enjoying the veterinary field my passion remains human healthcare. In 2002 I began studying for my MBA / MS in Health Care Administration at the University of Maryland, my intention being to resume a career in healthcare administration.
