Dr. Blues' Konocti Review Saturday
Posted by Dr. Blue
I had a "BLAST" again, and that huge smile has not left my face even though I'm so tired from the weekend!!! = )
On to the review:
After working some very long 14 hour days (I own a business) and no weekends really to call my own, it was nice to take a long weekend off and see Chris Isaak and the band!
It's Saturday morning and I'm trying to get moving (slow I might add) after a very late night out having fun!!!!! Our room happens to be next door to the spa facilities so we decided to take advantage of it. After a workout on the stair master and some tennis, I went for my massage which was much needed after a serious car accident 3 years ago, compounded by too much work not enough play and just needing some R&R. This was wonderful! Now I'm ready for the jacuzzi and a great concert!!!!!
It's around 6:00pm that the buffet begins to serve the guests and the line is already long and people are waiting to be seated. Bypassing the line and heading for the bar to our favorite ,ummm uh "earthy" bartender! *l* The bar is far more crowded than the night before as we glance around at all the people/couples. It was only us and a few others the night before so this was a bit more surprising. We knew that the concert for tonight brought in more people. The capacity for the concert area was only 750 people??? Thats what the sign said including balcony so they packed them in.
After a few cocktails we head for the concert in eager anticipation!!!! It's packed with people in the hallways which are pretty narrow and we get in line for dinner. Tonight our seats are near the Herschel side second row, 2 tables in from the aisle. They were great seats in my opinion, no one to block us and we wouldn't block too many behind us when we wanted to get up and dance.
As we approached our table we notice someone has put their coats in our seats. We check our tickets once again and YEP!!!! those are our seats. We politely move them to the other side and enjoy our dinner. The couple who is to be our table guests are like the Amazon Ladies TALL!!!!!!! The woman, I won't use her real name so I'll call her "Blondie", who sat down with her equally tall, darkhaired, handsome and buff hubby looked a bit annoyed that we moved their things. Instantly I pick up on this as did my husband and I'm thinking to myself "Oh great!!!! this is going to be fun!!!!!!! (get ready to rummmmmmble!!! *lol* ) just kidding though!!!!
The man I think glanced at his ticket and then put out his hand and introduced himself and his wife. *phew* I thought it was going to be a long night but this couple turned out to be so much fun!!!! I laughed so hard the guy was a crack up and a lot of drinks later kept me laughing because he was sort of challenging the Dancing Gestapo but only after they left our table we laughed and had a great time and Blondie was the most wild fun woman and beautiful along with those legs that went for days!! Some ladies have all the luck!! *lol* Blondie was a huge Isaak fan and had been to well over 10 concerts and has seen him in the Bay area when he first started out so she truly was a veteran at this and it was fun to hear her stories!!! I liked her allot and she looked out for me like the Amazon Ladies which btw, stopped by our table to say Hi!!!! They had I think the same seats as the night before!!!! They came by to make sure and exchange e-mails to keep in touch as we all live not far from each other so that was real nice to meet these ladies and share the C/I experience!!!
Beside me, at another table, I strike up a conversation with a woman who had never seen C/I. I thought whoa!!! she is gonna have some fun!!!! I swear everyone were giants that surrounded me. All these peole were so tall. The women's friend that I strike the conversation up with(no less than 6 foot also) pulls out this awesome 8X10 glossy of her and Chris in Reno, (She was also cool later on when we all began to dance, always putting me in front of her so I could see over everyone), His eyes shine more blue than I have ever seen!! and she has a beautiful smile while he hugs her tight!! (wonder why) Wow! envious again because I have never had the guts nor the desire to go up and get a pic with him much less and autograph. I mention this because things can change, and they did!!!! *lol*
I forgot to mention that the night before a guy decides to propose to his girlfriend while we waited for the concert to begin. The announcer hands him the mic, the two, huge projection screens on either side of the stage are focused in on them. We don't hear what he is saying and she just looks shocked and embarrassed. Took forever for her to say YES!!! and then the audience gives them a nice round of applause. I and the Amazon Ladies saw the guy pull out the little black box with the ring in it and wanted to yell out "Let's see the ring" we wanted to see if she got a huge Rock or not!!! Ok, superficial of us but but we were having fun and needed to know this!!!! *lol* but we refrained.
The announcer then introduces The Eric Martin Band and as they take to the stage the audience is more into it tonight and ready to have a good time!! The energy is high!!!! Let me back up a bit, the night before I sat and talked with Eric Martin for awhile in the hallway. I'm not the type to go up and start a conversation like that I always figure there busy and have enough of that sort of thing from others so I don't bother them. Fortunately for me we are stuck in the hallway with allot of people around and I can't go anywhere nor can he really so I just tell him how much we liked his music. He was very personable and genuinely a nice guy as we talked he told me he had been playing for 20 years and was part of Mr. Big (a Band) for a long time. Coincidentally his parents live not far from me so we talked about his dad "Pepper Martin" who had been in a band years ago and was extremely supportive of his, (finding the genre to categorize him in) Soul with a rock and roll edge but better in my opinion. I asked if we could buy his music and where we could see him play. Wow!!!! he plays in my area at a place that would be great to see him so I was excited. I told him he had a beautiful voice and so strong in projection and what a great backup band , before I knew it he scooped me quickly around my waist and grabbed me and hugged me so tight and seemed so genuinely appreciative of any feedback and comments. He is all of 30 years old and I would gladly pay to see him again!!!! Thats when the mirror dress lady interrupted our conversation along with her anxious g/f for a photo with him. He pulled me close again, to my surprise and thanked me and gave e-mail for his dad and said to write him and check his website. That was cool loved it!!!! *huge silly grin on my face* and off I went.
Eric Martin Band played a little longer tonight and was really sounding good. I had found out from his dad, that he was just getting over a pretty bad flu, but you couldn't pick that up in his voice. He actually spotted me at my table and looked and sang and nodded in acknowledgment and wow, makes a girl feel special!!! He is sounding hot and plays for hmm over 45 minutes. He told me he was shocked that he wasn't encored back the first night, but I told him it's the crowd, there here for C/I and him only, not that there wasn't fans of his there, but there are some serious diehard fans paying good money and anxious for Chris to come on stage. I think this was his 1st time opening for C/I & Silvertone!!
Finally, Eric Martin Band has played and the music changes. You can just feel the energy change as the announcer asks us to welcome the guy who hales from Stockton California, and WE DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of us are screaming loud and clapping. Chris comes out wearing the same purple sequined suit and looking rested and in good spirits. The rest of the band are in their dark gray shiny suits and black shirts and looking real good! I don't know the set list again, I get lost in the moment and just want to have fun!!!
They were really ON tonight and played allot longer than expected!!! The women that I was near and seated by were all ready to dance. All night we fought these huge Gorilla GESTAPO concert police who wouldn't let us dance. Some woman, near the middle 2nd row had her husband complain to the "Gestapo" and we weren't even close to her or anyone else for that matter. I think a few girls rushed to the center and blocked her view which I understand, and she was allot older and really didn't look like the type to want to get up and dance! *lol* The Gestapo tried all night to contain us ladies but we prevailed without anyone getting bothered by us. hehehe!! The usual set list is played and probably a few that he didn't play the night before. The couple at my table got up and danced along with me a bunch of other ladies so we were all closely dancing together and everyone was so cool and made me go in front of them so I could see. Needless to say, they easily could see over me and I had a straight shot of the whole band and Chris. For some reason no one up against the stage got up to dance which shocked me I guess they didn't want to block anyone and we were further off to the side trying to be polite to others behind us, that way we have no problems and we all enjoy the experience!!! One of my favorite songs, besides Bonnie Bee to dance to is DANCIN' and we did!!! We had so much fun dancing, screaming and laughing so hard. Chris was hot as was the rest of the band and they were into it. I could tell the difference between this concert and the others I had been to and wow!!!!! The ladies around me and I just danced and clapped and had huge cheesy smiles on our faces!!!!! Thank god my husband is so understanding to let me lose and have fun!! The ladies kept trying to get me to go further up the aisle and closer to center stage but that was wayyyyyyyyy out of my comfort zone and I didn't want to get the Gestapo over yelling at us to get back to our seats. these guys were so buff, reminded me of prison guards, my husband called them the DANCING GESTAPO which was very true!!!! *lol*
The band played 2 1/2 hours I think and Kenney Dale Johnson was just kicking a**. Sorry no other word here to describe it. Chris was really giving a great show along with Herschel and Rowland and Brett. The best time yet at a concert!!!!!! Chris zeroed in on some woman who must have had her midriff exposed and he was noticing her for sure called her a "Hoochie mamma" which made me bust up as I was sipping my drink and almost spewed it across the table which I didn't!!!! *lol* When he said that it reminded me of the comments here at the BH. She later went up on stage during Bonnie Bee. I think back to who it was and no wonder she was in fantastic shape because she worked in the spa as the aerobics instructor I remember her because she helped my husband and I with our robes and lockers!!! I really don't think she was a hoochie mamma just someone used to wearing very little for her kick butt classes that I saw her give! but one never knows!
I didn't want this night to end as Bonnie Bee started and all the woman hurled towards the stage I just continued my dancing in the aisles and watching Chris and the band!!!! I have never yelled and hooted so much!!! My hands were also sore from clapping so much!!!! I see the Amazons Ladies daughter (the little one, 10 year old) on stage and she is just too cute and a little boy went up and Chris tried to get him to dance but realized all too quickly that wasn't gonna happen and he was smiling!!! Now there were a few HOOCHIE MAMMAS on stage tonight but I'm getting used to them by now!!! *lol*
The concert ends and Chris goes out to sign autographs and we head for the bar where another, not so good band, is playing. After awhile I decided I wanted a shirt as I had heard this was all they had even for the Sacramento show. So off to get in line I go when I run into the Amazon Ladies and was nice to sit in that long line and chat with them. The line was long and took us forever to get through the narrow hallway up to the tables where he was signing! The Ladies all had nice cameras with them and told me afterwards they were going to get pics. I told them I would love to come and watch and they basically told me I had to come!!! *lol*
Nearing the tables for autographs I was getting crushed and they were trying to keep the lines straight in a very narrow are. The Amazon Ladies once again see me fading into oblivion in the sea of people and grab me to come to the front of the line where they are. Cool Ladies I must say, they didn't have to do that for me and I was much appreciative and felt like I wouldn't get crushed even though we all did. People leaning on us with their sweaty bodies because there was no air movement and we were under lights generating too much heat!!! A few rude ones trying to elbow their way in front of you but I was rescued!!! *Go Amazons*
Finally at the autograph table I lay my shirt down for Chris to sign . I'm in front of one of the Amazons and have my back towards the table and chatting away with her. Chris is way far away so I figure why not chat while we wait. The Amazon Lady I was talking to notices Chris coming our way and I turn around eyes and head down waiting for him to sign my shirt. I don't look up and just watch his hands start to sign when all of a sudden he stops. I'm not paying attention as to why I just keep waiting, looking down, for him to sign my shirt then I can get out of the crazy line. I guess I realize he is staring at me waiting to make eye contact as my eyes slowly look up and he says HI!!! I felt like a silly schoolgirl when those blue eyes intensely stared me in the eyes. I got the words out and said Hi how are you! God I didn't know what to say! *lol* He signed it to ********* a hug and a kiss sign with and exclamation and I smiled so big and he said thank you for coming and I said thank you back and got out of line waiting for the Amazon Ladies to finish in line.
The Amazon Ladies wanted me, NO said you HAVE to go with us and get a pic with Chris and offered to take it and send it too me. I said "Oh god I'm not good at stuff like that and would probably laugh the whole time. (character flaw of mine while nervous) *shaking head* As we neared Chris I was seriously wanting to run but man they trapped me and put me in front. I let the little one go before me as I try and gain some composure. Oh god it's my turn and theres no where to run!! I try to just turn and fade into the crowd and Chris notices I'm nervous about this. Now I HAVE to do it. The Amazons are just laughing and getting a kick out of this while the ladies behind them are really encouraging me to go forth. I have a smile a mile wide and can't say a word!! Chris says to me "I promise this wont hurt" and has a grin on his face. He towers over me and wraps a tight arm around my waist and I begin to quietly laugh. I couldn't hold it in and keep my composure, I'm no good at this stuff!!!!! He was so sweet about it and pulled me close and she took a few pics with Chris and I. I let go of him and smiled up at him and said thank you and he said thank you for coming and then I was GONE to the bar! *lol*
I took a few pics with the Amazon Ladies and talked for a few minutes before I had to go. We all had smiles on our faces and a great time and can't wait for the next one!!!!!
Oh, I forgot to mention the other BH'ers I met and were very cool and welcoming. I met Blue Darlin', Nobody Special (which I thought she was) and Sister Christian all very sweet and I was happy to put names to faces!! I wished them fun to the Sac show, a bit envious because that day was my real B-Day and i wanted to go but I was wayyyy to tired and work was calling me the next day so I wished them alot of fun and a safe drive back!!!!!
Till the next concert,
The Doctor is out
