Big Bear Days..... Nah it doesn't sound any better (Explained within)

6:00 am: My alarm clock rudely awakens me after only about 4 hours of sleep thanks to anticipation. 7:00 am: Arrived sleepily at star 98.7's front lobby. There were only about 20 people there. Had to sign a waiver saying that if I died my heirs would not sue. Also hooked up with Robin. Boarded the bus and were on our way at about 7:30am. Oh yeah there were video monitors on the bus and we watched "Ferris Buler's Day Off." 9:30 am(I think): Stopped at McDonalds because SOME PEOPLE on the bus didn't eat before arriving. It was a good chance to get out of the bus and wander around to work out the kinks. 10:00 am: Arrive at the winter park they took us to. Not much to do there as I didn't want to get a wet bum from the snow and the only bobsled type run that didn't use huge inflatable tires to ride on was closed. We did race in the go carts though. That was too fun.
Noonish: On to the star 98.7 lodge. When we left the bus Star 98.7 gave us all copies of SOTD. The lodge was actually smaller than I expected. Just a 3 bedroom house with a little loft area and a nice living room. The room where the concert was to be held was the size of a usual dining/living room. There were 3 mics set up by the patio doors and two chairs. Robin and I staked out front row rug as soon as we arrived we were fed Subway sandwiches chips candies and sodas. There was a raffle and I won a Sprint PCS phone with one month free access! Lucky me huh? Chris and the guys arrived after we did and headed upstairs to the green room to prepare and relax a little after the ride up there. I got pictures of their arrival only to discover that silly me had left my lens cap on. Oh well life is strange that way sometimes. 1:00 pmish: Chris, Kenny and Herschel come out to the concert area. Chris was wearing a blue suit, white button up shirt with a blue and white stripped tie and blue suede shoes. Kenny was wearing black jeans with a black vest and a bright yellow shirt. Herschel was wearing all black. As it was an acoustic set Roly and Brett weren't there. Hmmm, guess it's good to be the bass and keyboard players sometimes? Anyway they opened the show with a Johnny Cash tune I don't know. I think from there they played This Time. I really don't remember much of the set list because they didn't seem to have one. In fact at one point Chris and Kenny couldn't figure out what to play next so Kenny picks up his copy and looks at it. Chris joins him and I guess didn't like what was next so he starts playing Kenny looks at the list for half a beat then tosses it aside like "we don't need no stinking set list." So, here are the songs I remember. Speak of the Devil, Blue Darlin', Sweet Leahni, SF Days, Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing, Black Days Blue Nights(Might not be the name but that was the gist. Maybe it's blue darlin?), Diddley Daddy, Think of tomorrow, some covers I don't know the names to. Okay now on to the stories he told. There weren't many. The only one I really remember him telling was in SOTD. You know the bit from the Crazy Christmas broadcast about making the voices stop and also the bit about hiding pieces of colored meat. Iactually missed some of the stories.
Now on to funny moments. One was when Kenny who was without full drum set (He only had a little snare type one and a tiny Play School xylophone) Well, before This Time Chris teased Kenny by starting to sing the Play School jingle. So every time he played it during the song everyone giggled a little. After Leahni Chris was making a few jokes about how the record label heard songs like that and wondered what the guys were thinking. Some woman mentioned that they played songs from Baja in a Hawaiian restaurant she and another guy managed. Well, during Diddley Daddy he invited her up to do the hukie lau ([Pardon my bad spelling)) She was embarrassed and sat down about half way through the song. Well, at one point Chris yells out "Hukie Lau Solo!" only to discover she had quit on him. During San Francisco days Chris sang Bear Valley days. Kenny pipes up that it was Big Bear. Chris stops the song and says "It's Big Bear?" Everyone answers yes. So Chris goes back and sings "Big Bear days, Big Bear nights" He gives this odd look that basically says that sounded bad but, sings it again still not too thrilled with the way it sounded.
Well, now we're on to the post show part. Chris signed everyone's CD or whatever. I asked him to sign an 8X10 that I had taken in Ventura and I also got my picture taken with him he personalized it. I had Herschel sign a picture one of Robins friends took of Herschel, Robin and myself on stage in Ventura. From there I headed out into the foyer of the lodge, and found Kenny, I had him sign the cover of my new SOTD CD and got my picture taken with him. Now I was carrying the phone that I had won in the raffle at this time and he asked me about it. I explained what was going on and he decided that the phone had to be in the picture with us. Hence I now have a pic of me with Kenny and my new cell phone (in box) and Kenny's pointing to the phone with a "check it out!" look on his face and I've got this silly grin on mine. I got my picture taken outside with Herschel. Then Star wanted a group photo to post on their website. So we all got in around Chris and took the big group picture. Well, after the photo was taken I took a moment to thank Chris for coming and doing the show. Once again my phone was noticed. He asked me where I'd bought it and I said I actually won it. So he asked what I had done to win it. And I replied all I did was have the ticket with the right numbers. He laughed and said he needed to enter some contests like that. I laughed and said Yeah they're the best kind. That was the end of the conversation because someone asked him for a photo and he obliged. Anyway, that's about it. All in all it was a great day. I'm going to post the photos I took and maybe the ones of me and the guys. Just give me a little time.
The concert was about 45minutes to an hour long. I wasn't really paying attention to time at that point. We left at about 3pm.
Wickedly,
