Ventura Concert Review
Posted by Michelle D
First of all I had to take off work early to get there. I told my temp boss I had an audition and that I couldn't miss it. After arriving in Ventura I discovered I was early. Jeryl wasn't there yet so I started talking to Robin a lovely person I met in San Diego in October. Well, when Jeryl arrived she just hopped in line and we were soon scouting out our table. I have to say I am very happy she was so tenacious in getting the tables she wanted. This was my second show being right up front and I actually liked it a lot more because I could sit down occasionally. Anyway, the guys all looked great. I love Chris's blue star burst suit. I have pics and am going to be trying to fix my web page so all can see all the pics over the weekend.
The set list was as follows:
Wanderin
I'm not Sleeping
Please
SOTD (Robin brought some little devil horns which she Linda and I put on for this number. Chris caught sight of us and gave this surprised little double take I guess he thought it was cute because he smiled.)
Flyin
Wicked Game
Go Walkin Down There
BDABBT
Forever Blue (I started getting a little irked at some of the crowd at this point. During every soft/slow song they'd TALK! I mean come on folks have some respect for the artist on stage.})BR> Black Flowers
Put out your hand
Diddly Daddy (During Herschel's solo thing where Chris, Kenny and Roly razz poor Hersch, Kenney picked up my little devil horns from the table and put them on Hersch. Robin and I totally lost it laughing. At the end of the song Hersch just threw my horns to someone at Robin's table. I didn't think I'd get them back but I did thanks to whomever at Robin's table caught them.)Encore 1
Super Magic. {Mirror suit ... of course}
Blue HotelEncore 2
Don't get so down on yourself.
Only the Lonely. (One girl kept yelling out a request for "This Time" during all the intros. Finally during this one Chris was fed up I guess because he looked at the girl and said "I didn't get up here by listening to you" I don't think he was really mad though because he had kind of an evil smirk on his face when he said it. Either way the girl just giggled so she wasn't hurt or upset by the remark.)
San Francisco Days
Bonnie Bee (Okay here Robin and I donned our horns again and it paid off. During one of the non vocal parts Chris said "I need my devil woman up here." Then he came over and pulled us up on stage. He asked us to stand next to him and dance a little while he kept singing. When he left the stage all sorts of other women started rushing the stage. All I can remember thinking was "This song doesn't seem as long on the other side of the fence." But I had fun and as any good aspiring performer would I LOVED every minute of being in front of such a fantastically pumped crowd. Even if they weren't pumped because of or for me.)When it was my turn in the autograph line I asked Chris to sign the poster I bought and my horns. He signed my poster "Devil Chick (I'm not exactly sure if it's chick but I think it is) Chris Isaak" and drew a little halo around his head he signed my horns normally as there wasn't much room to write much more. I'm not sure why but Chris didn't do a photo session after autographs. I'm sure there's some logical reason but the whole crew seemed to be in a big rush.
Okay there are a few things I forgot exactly where they belong in the chronology of the show but I felt I must mention.
1) At some point earlier in the show Chris was getting hot so he had Jeryl hold his guitar while he removed his jacket. She posted a first hand account and I got a not great picture. All you can really see is a silhouette of Chris handing a head the guitar.
2) During one of the early encores a woman ran up ON Jeryl's table up to the stage. Well, when he saw this girl charging at him Chris literally ran away. He returned when security had escorted her off stage and explained that this girl reminded him of his ex-girlfriend and went back into the song he was playing. He may not have gone back to that song. I can't really remember.Well, that's it for now. More to come later. Till then I remain...
Wickedly Yours,
Devil Woman Michelle
