Warfield Review

What a wild, wild night. Four of us piled into my friend, Eva's minivan. Eva, her 10 yr. old daughter, Lil Eva, my 17 year old daughter, Amazon Girl and me, Amazon. We listened to our CI music all the way to S.F. from Sacramento. We arrived and the Warfield about 5:15 and there were about 7 people in line when we arrived. I have to say that the 'pre-show' on the sidewalk in front of the theatre from all of the residents of that wonderful city was almost worth the 2 hour wait in line. We talked to some very nice folks in line with us.
A news crew from KRON-SF showed up and began to interview those in line. They began with the women at the front of the line. They wanted to know how long they had been waiting, what did they like best about CI, what is their favorite song, etc... Then they wanted them to sing their favorite song. Just when I was feeling pretty smug about not being on camera, they walked down the line and started talking to Lil Eva! She was doing pretty well and I was trying desperately to hide behind the guy in front of me, when Eva made some comment and the camera was on her. They tried to get us to sing, but the minute they asked, I forget every word to every lyric I knew. Quite horrifying. As we were standing there, Hersh, his wife and his dog went strolling by on the sidewalk. The camera guy said, "Hey, there's Chris Isaak's guitar player." They tried to catch him, but they were really hoofing it down the street.
When the doors opened, Amazon Girl and I got snagged for having cameras and had to check them at the coat check room. We finally found our seats and waited for the show. Jude opened and was pretty good. I had never heard of him before and could barely hear over the roar of the crowd. I felt sorry for him, because it was really obvious that no one was paying much attention. I couldn't believe it. At least no one booed. Amazon Girl said she's buying his CD so she can actually hear a song...Chris came out and absolutely rocked the house! The energy level of the show was over and above any of the other shows I've seen. He was in a great mood, told all of the same lame stories and jokes that always make me laugh (I would miss them if he stopped telling them), and gave a fabulous performance.
He had to sidestep numerous bras and panties that were tossed onstage and seemed sort of irritated by the lingerie. During "Black Flowers" , what appeared to be an amateur belly dancer was on stage, doing some sort of dance to the song. What was up with that? It was really distracting and weird. Also, while he sang "Forever Blue" there were a bunch of people by the bar talking really loud. It was all this Amazon could do not to stand up and scream, "Shut the hell up! What's the matter with you?" Being the polite Amazon that I am, I didn't, but I really wanted to.
After the show, he did his usual signing. The Warfield bouncers were trying their best to clear out the lobby quickly, but we 'die-hards' kept waiting for the usual pic session. We were not disappointed. Chris followed the handful of us out to the front sidewalk wearing this doofy hunting hat with ear flaps. It was a ridiculous hat, but cracked me up. Road Manager Guy would only allow him about 5 minutes for pictures and it looked like Amazon Girl was going to miss out. After RMG announced "Thanks, we're all done, folks", Chris whipped off the hat, walked over and grabbed Amazon Girl's hand and let me take a bunch of photos. What a guy. Just proves again that he is a true gentleman, with a kind heart and generous spririt. It is those things, along with our love of his music that will keep us going to concerts for a long, long time.
Got pictures

Well, just got back from Costco (I still have a screaming headache) where we had our film developed. We're such geeks because we had to take up the rest of the rolls by snapping pics of our Christmas tree and stuff so we could get these back! I truely wish that I had a scanner, so the rest of you could see CI in his ridiculous Elmer Fudd hat. We totally cracked up and received numerous stares from other Costco customers.
In every shot I took outside, the Crazy Horse Gentlemans' Club neon lights are blazing. What a backdrop! I had to stop by Eva's house to show her and she twisted my arm behind my back until I gave up the negatives. What a brut!! Amazon Girl looked fabulous as always. I declined to pose with CI, because everytime I do, I get the pics back and he looks totally bored. Like I need any more of those. Well, off to TylenolLand for me. Must have been from the whiplash from bouncing my head to the music last night. See you all later.
