Third Eye Blind, Metallica, Rancid Earn Bammie Nods

Bay Area bands Third Eye Blind, Metallica and Rancid are among the nominees for this year's Bammie awards, it was announced yesterday. Now in its 22nd year -- second in its new incarnation as a statewide event -- the BAM magazine awards will be presented March 13 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Tickets are now on sale.

Hole received the most nominations -- six, including outstanding album for ``Celebrity Skin'' and outstanding female vocalist for bandleader Courtney Love. Bakersfield aggro-rockers Korn joined Third Eye Blind and Metallica in second place, with four nominations apiece.

Vallejo natives E-40 and Mix Master Mike earned nominations in the statewide category for outstanding hip-hop/rap album.

Bay Area darlings Creeper Lagoon and the Donnas each had statewide nominations (for outstanding debut album and outstanding punk/ska album, respectively) as well as multiple nominations in the regionalized Northern California awards. Other Northern California nominees include the Hieroglyphics, Storm & Her Dirty Mouth, Wilson Gil and the Willful Sinners and the -- saxophonist Dave Ellis.
