BRAD ABOUT YOU: Ah, yes, Hank, Patsy, Roy -- and Stonewall?
The Tennessean 11/2?/98
By Brad Schmitt, Tennessean Staff WriterLet's hear from Tennessean music writer Tom Roland:
Chris Isaak headlines Tuesday at the legendary Ryman Auditorium, and it's a gig he's looking forward to.
"I haven't been there before," Chris said. "That should be exciting to me. A lot of famous people that I really (admire) I'm sure have ran across on that stage. So the idea that I could be on the same stage that Stonewall Jackson was on -- you know, high livin'. . ." Stonewall Jackson? "I think he's been there, for sure," Isaak insisted.
Of course, he has. But that's not the point. You often hear folks talk about playing the same stage as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline or Ernest Tubb. No disrespect meant, but when's the last time someone said they were excited about playing the Ryman because Stonewall Jackson had been there?
"He had some really nice music," Isaak explained. "Don't Be Angry, remember that song? (country hit, 1964) My brother and I sing that really nice in harmony. In fact, I've done that on stage with my brother a couple of times. I'm a big fan of a lot of out-there, blood-and-guts country."
And Stonewall Jackson . . .
"He's good."
Chris had a wild and wacky time in Nashville in the 1980s. Read more about it at Brad's Celebrities Web site at tennessean.com
