Compared with the grind of putting a rock 'n' roll show on the road, (Huey)Lewis says, acting isn't much tougher than singing karaoke versions of his own songs. ``Most of it's bottled water and makeup and lying around in the trailer. And they pay you.'' Chris Isaak agrees. A veteran of several bit parts who is set to appear as a small-town sheriff in the independent film ``Shepherd,'' the sharp-dressed crooner recently told The Chronicle, ``I don't know what actors do. I think in between movies they just try to be outrageous so they get publicity.
``(Actors) don't have to do anything but pretend. At least as a musician you have to haul your amplifier -- that's one prerequisite.'' Isaak jokes that his talent is minimal. ``My method of acting is, I wait until they yell `Action!' and then I say whatever they wrote down for me. Big technique.''
