Chris Isaak will be singing duets with both Madonna and Gloria Estafan in the coming months, but it's unlikely they'll end up on disk. Isaak told Addicted To Noise yesterday that Estafan is putting together an AIDS benefit concert and that the two of them are planning to sing "La Tumba Serra Final." As for Isaak's rendezvous with the Material Girl, that is expected to take place during the next month, and will find them trading verses on the Frank Sinatra/Nancy Sinatra duet, "Something Stupid." "I think Madonna can do the Nancy part perfect." Isaak said he was also interested in singing with Chrissie Hynde and Bjrk and PJ Harvey. He has no plans to release duets, either as singles or on an album. "My next album is going to be another pop album," he said. "I like making rock 'n' roll records. These duets are fun. I'll do them for benefits and for TV shows, but when it comes to making an album that's not what I want to do."

We were surprised to learn that Isaak is something of a Metallica fan. "I listen to Metallica," he told ATN. "People think of them as a metal band, but they've got some real cool melodies. He also said he's been listening to Wilco, Pavement, R.E.M., the Cranberries and Portishead. "Real nice sound, relaxing, dreamy," he said of Portishead's "Sour Times." He was surprised to learn that the group had sampled the spy riff that is the hook for that song; it's a sound that has been part of Isaak's music for more than ten years.

Isaak also had some advice for guys that want to get their girlfriends out of the house fast. "I've got this 'Monster Surf' video," he said. "It's one of those tapes, you put it on when your girlfriend comes over and she goes, 'I'm leaving,' You go, wait, this is really good. He catches this wave. It's a 20 foot wave. He takes off and eats it. 'I'm leaving.' Honey! Wait, honey.
