Craig and Barbara Johnston S/V Sequoia -- heading for the South Pacific!

The boat
Sequoia is an Outbound 44, delivered from Shanghai in 2001.  At this point she has about 3500 miles under her keel, having circumnavigated Vancouver Island in summer, 2001, and having made a shorter trip to Barkley Sound in 2002.

Accommodations include two private cabins with queen berths, a smaller cabin which doubles as equipment space/storage/lazarette, full galley (including refrigerator and freezer), two heads, and a comfortable, spacious salon with sound system and DVD player.  Full complement of electronic and safety equipment for offshore passagemaking, 3 headsails, storm sails, watermaker, wind generator, solar panels, awnings.  See more details about the Outbound 44
here.

The people

Craig, age 55, is a retired (for now) electrical and mechanical engineer, having most recently worked at Nike in the materials testing department (inventing new ways to break shoes).  Barbara, also age 55, is a retired (for now) lawyer, having most recently done appellate law for a Hillsboro negligence defense firm.  Craig and Barbara are both musicians, and listen to classical and jazz (but not much rock & roll).  This is their fourth sailboat, having started in 1970 with a Santana 22.

The trip
The plan is to set out from Astoria for San Francisco in early March, 2003 (at the first decent weather window).  From San Francisco, the first major passage will be to the Marquesas, starting in mid-March.  From there we hope to reach New Zealand by December. See our tentative itinerary
here.
