HISTORY
This page is basically to explain the history of the band and how we all met and came together to form Katharsis.

The longest relationship in the band is probably between Me (Jack) and Matt Biggs. We have been friends since early nursery school at Bonney Grove. We were really good mates and then it was a real plus when we both ended up at the same secondary school. This is where we met Matt Niner. He was in our form and I befriended him early on and Biggs got to know him as well. Matt Niner was the one who introduced us to Mark around year 8 as we didn't know him very well and then the idea of the band began!

At the time I was taking drum lessons and Mark had been getting into rock music a lot at the time and between us the idea was born. Our first ever name was Confusion and although a lot of planning went into it we never really got anything done under that name and like most of our crazy schemes it was dropped until Matt Niner bought a guitar.

This is when myself and Biggs decided band was back on (without Mark) and on one faitful day in my bedroom we decided to record ourselves. Oh dear god! I beleive the tape still exists but I don't think it should be heard by anybody ever! I didn't have a bass at that point and was singing (BAD IDEA!!!) Matt knew about 2 riffs on guitar and Biggs had never sat behind a kit before. But with all those limitations we decided to name ourselves Griptape and record the Griptape E.P. Nothing good came of it and once again idea dropped.

But like all things that are meant to be we came back for more! This time Mark was back with us and we had settled on the new and much more serious name of Katch 22 (originally a book about Vietnam I beleive called Catch 22). Well once again we recorded ourselves and because Biggs wasn't present I was on drums. Well the song writing was quite good but still the music was awful but the spirit was still there!!

"F#@/ing What?" was Biggs' reaction to the name Katch 22 being taken by some Trip-Hop Garage or something band. We didn't find this out until after we recorded our first E.P. when everyone was there. It's called the day before and had some decent music on it for once, but seeing as i was missing the D string on my bass, didn't go too well (Mark I wonder why I was missing that string?) ? So out with the old in with new! Broken TV it is!

Over the course of two long blister filled days at Mark's house for a bloody change we managed to record our first proper self written E.P. that didn't sound like amplifier fuzz. It was called the marble E.P. and didn't have too bad songs on it but it was still way below standard. So we left it for a while and thought lets make a covers record. Oh no! It's Ouzo! Oh Pah!

8 songs in 3 days was the fruits of our labour. Perfectly covered music it sounded good but Mark was starting to realise if he seriously wanted to sing he needed to take lessons. So now he is. Biggs is taking drum lessons, Matt Niner puts in a lot of practise time and Me and Mark still take guitar lessons with our wonderful but crazy teacher Jeff. Oh I almost forgot the next name change occured when we realised Broken TV was boring so after weeks of dictionary searching and deliberation we settled on Katharsis!

In our more recent history we played at the battle of the bands and won best performance under our new name of Katharsis and also added talented young guitarist Frank Muir to our rank so we now have a Maiden-esque triple guitar attack. However Frank wasn't working so we seperated with him because of musical differences. We carried on writing and our most recenet and best release was our EP Spraypaint Death and we are still writing and will be recording some new tracks very soon and eventually will have enough for an album!

Wow I typed out a nice little essay here! Anyways hope you enjoyed our story and keep surfing our site!
