Members of the Great South Bay Amateur
Radio Club, Islip ARES Group and
Suffolk County Radio Club operated
the W2GSB/Lighthouse station at Fire
Island Lighthouse, Fire Island
National Seashore, August 19 & 20, 2000. They
logged 796 contacts with amateur
radio operators in 46 countries, 45 US
States, and 6 Canadian Provinces
while contacting 43 Lighthouse Stations.
The lighthouse stations logged
were from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland,
Norway, Denmark, Canada, Puerto
Rico and USA.
We had a great time and enjoyed
the beautiful weather along with the good
radio conditions along with the
company of radio amateurs and their
families from the Great South Bay
Amateur Radio Club, Islip ARES and Suffolk County Amateur Radio Clubs.
We had 24 operators/loggers
There was an estimated 400-500 guests
at Fire Island Lighthouse during
Saturday and Sunday.
Our thanks to the Fire Island Lighthouse
Preservation Society and the Fire Island National Sea shore for their hospitality.
Special thanks to Larry Turk, Lighthouse Keeper, for his time and assistance
during our stay at the lighthouse. We are lookingforward to next year's
Lighthouse
Weekend which is August 18 &
19, 2001.
