Here are some photos I took in Churchill , Manitoba this August while I was working on the aerial filming unit of " THE SNOW WALKER ".
We mounted cameras in helicopters , Beavers, and under the belly of the Norseman flown by Dave Robertson from Chimo Air in Red Lake, Ont. They were built in Canada and only about 20 remain flying. This one is in beautiful original condition, radial engine, fabric wings and fuselage.
.
Notice the crew keeping their heads low...... even though Dave is
an excellent pilot.
This will be a shot of the plane trailing engine smoke as it prepares to
crash on the tundra.

Each July about 1,200 polar bears come off the ice 50 kms south of this town (population 750).
We
used a helicopter to herd a bear out of town and across the
Churchill River to the wilderness side. This was a 4 year old male
( 'just a young punk ' as the chief pilot Jody described him ).
Repeat offenders are darted by gun from the chopper, then moved by truck
or helo to the polar bear jail outside town. Later they are released down
the coast when the ice freezes up and they head off to hunt seal.
I used a 135mm lens on my Pentax MX for the bear shots at 1/1000 sec...
