for the Week of October 5th (Week
8 ) PLEASE READ and COMPLETE
the ENTIRE packet. Return on Friday. Child�s name

Practice writing
your name on the sheet provided. Say each letter as you write it. Your
child should be able to write his or her first name at this time. Your
child should have written their first name at least 4 times during the
week. Use the lines on the back of the page. �
Have someone read
with you. Look for the letters and words we have learned when you read
today. Write the title of the book you read at the end of this note. You
can use Where�s My Teddy?, Pet Day, I Can Eat At..., My Bus, The Party, The Salad, The Mat, any of the other paper
books, or any book . Daily Until
Mastered: �
Use the flash cards
to practice identifying the numbers from 1-20, unless
mastered. �
Count from 1-25 out loud. Your child should
have this mastered at this time. �
Use the letter flash
cards to identify the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make,
especially M, S, R, T, P, C
(as in candy), and A ( A has 2 sounds: �a� as in apple and �a� as in
apron), and N (NEW!). Your child needs to have all of
these letters and sounds mastered by Friday. All letters, sounds, and
words introduced are required for promotion to first
grade. �
A new page of
flashcards is included at the end of the packet. You can tear it off and
cut the cards apart. Use the flashcards for the words �a (pronounced
�uh�), �my�, �the� (usually pronounced �thuh), �I�, �like�, �am�, and �at� (NEW!). Your child needs to
know these words �by heart�. Suggestions if time
allows: �
Math: Trace and copy on the number
�1� page (not required) �
Have your child sort
coins into groups (pennies, nickels, dimes,
quarters). �
Make a pattern with
coins, such as penny, penny, dime, penny, penny,
dime... �
Count pennies.

Count dimes by 10s
to 100 (we will be counting to 100 by 10s in class). Monday � Find some things in/out
of your house that has the letter �N� in the name. Bring an item or picture that
starts with N to share sometime during the week. We have 19 children in
the class if you want to send a snack that starts with
N. � Practice writing lower
case and upper case N on the page in the packet. Parents, please make sure
that your child forms the letters correctly as they write. Say the
directions for writing the letter each time. � Math: Trace and copy on
the number �4� page.
