Disassemble

 

Tools Needed: Hand tools, Cherry picker, Jack, Jack stand, Air tools recommended, Clutch alignment tool, Ring gear holder.
Parts Needed: Clutch, Flywheel, Clutch release bearing.
What can you do at the same time?: Change motor mount, and all bushing.
Other thing needed: Transmission fluid, Brake fluid, High temperature grease, Brake cleaner, Lock tight, Shop towel.
Date: Started on March 6, 2004 to March 7, 2004.

 

Take off hoods, since you are going to use cherry picker to prevent from scratching. Higher car. Also, take off tires, drain transmission fluid.
Remove Battery
Remove engine cover, and intake
Be sure to cover intake with something, to prevent dust will be going in. Also, remove battery tray.
Remove cable bracket on the left of picture. Carefully remove both cables.
Remove slave cylinder and clutch line bracket to prevent from bending clutch line. After you remove this slave cylinder, do not move clutch pedal.
Remove engine wire harness cover.

1. Lift up lock tab

2. slide harness forward

Remove 2 upper transmission mounting bolts.
Remove transmission mount bracket and transmission mounting bolt on the right side of the picture.

Also, remove air cleaner bracket.

Remove under cover.
Unscrew and separate catalytic converter and header.

Taking off exhaust would be recommended.

Remove brake caliper.
Disassemble control arm and shock.

 

Remove driveshafts
Remove front engine mount bracket mounting bolt and rear transmission mount bolt.
Remove sway bar.

Reassemble subframe.

Before taking it off, make sure to make mark by marker on the frame, otherwise alignment will be messed up.

Remove clutch cover (3 bolts), after that, remove front engine mount.

After that, place jack under transmission, and remove transmission mounting bolts. there are 4 bolts.

Take off transmission from engine, and lower transmission.

Then, remove transmission rear mount and transmission rear mount bracket

Remove boot, release fork and release bearing from transmission.

Make sure to replace release bearing to new one.

Apply high temperature grease to release fork, release bearing, and release bearing guide.

Install release fork and the release bearing

Insert clutch alignment tool, and install ring gear holder.

I didn't use those tools in this part, but I disassembled clutch and flywheel with impact wrenches.

After flywheel had disassembled.
