In a stunning twist, the current NYSSRA M5 points leader did not
start this afternoon for a race on his home turf. Adirondack nordic
stalwart Brian Delaney apparently has fled the state, saying "I can't
risk drowning in the Peru Nordic Ski Pool again", apparently referring
to last Sunday's race at Mitchellbeiner Skistadion. Delaney is
reported to have appeared at the ticket counter at Burlngton Airport a
few days ago wearing a Tyrolean hat and vermillion sunglasses. He is
rumored to be at Soldier Hollow, trying to get his nordic mojo back.
Friends and family are remarkably close-lipped about his abrupt
departure; when reached for comment, Delaney's oldest son replied
"...yeah, whatever..."
