Jim Kobak on the Highway to Hell 1/3/07: yes, there is still some skiable snow in NY.

Although things have appeared bleak and times have been lean, the Peru Nordic Masters have never given up on this or any ski season.

That almost changed today.

Chris Rose had just pulled on his lycra shorts and was figuring he would give his bike a spin on rollers... ON ROLLERS????? INDOORS???? CYCLING DURING SKI SEASON???? ... Luckily, Jim Kobak rescued Chris from the brink of despair. Kobak forced Rose out of the house, "...no, no, no... no NYSSRA president should ever ride indoors during ski season, damn it! Scrape your damn skis and get in the car, we're finding snow, now, m***erf***er!"

And the hunt was on. The duo made it to the Whiteface Highway, which was surprisingly well covered from the Toll House. The pair set off for a tough uphill interval workout. They completed a set of "Kris Freeman's" (4 x 4 min LT hill repeats). The Highway is frozen solid; it should hold some skiable snow through at least a couple more warm days. Perhaps it will hold through the weekend. The usual set of strong winds added an extra challenge to the workout. The conditions were not great, but skis were gliding and it was a heck of a lot better than sitting on your a** riding rollers indoors. Don't Give Up
