BEHOLD THE FURY OF THE LORD OF DESTRUCTION

Triple tragedy struck Sunday on PNMSP's Lord of Destruction's Long Slow
Day.
Instead of snow, sunshine, blue skies and grass greeted him as he
readied
his training weapons. A newly waxed and rilled pair of Atomic's were
put
back in the rack while his trusty but battered V2 Aero 125's and
rollerski
poles were stowed in the roofbox.

7 miles out from the car, just a few hundred meters from the
turn-around, a
strange flopping sound was heard. LOD braked to a halt and checked out
his
well-worn rides, only to see a large flap of rubber hanging from the
front
left tire, exposing the cords. A V2 LSD turned into a repeat of
Saturday's
DP session, as Maswick made it slowly, but successfully, back to the
car.

The next hour was spent frantically sorting thru a pile of old V2
wheels and
tires, finally finding likely mates and mounting them up. A trip this
time
to the Ballston Lake bike path yielded a chance encounter with NYSSRA
stalwart Alec Davis, who was just finishing a classic workout of his
own.
After exchanging incantations designed to help turn the landscape
white,
Maswick took off in search of a third, unknown rollerskier Davis had
just
seen.

Maswick's impeccable V2 technique immediately looked stiff and
hesitant, but
due to what? Again stopping to check, LOD found a right rear blowout
to be
the culprit. A blood pounding, heart racing workout was just not in
the
cards for Sunday. "I was so disgusted with my gear, I actually went
home
and fired up my trusty lawnmower but even that ran out of gas!"

This evening finds the Peru Lord resting comfortably, a glass of wine
at
hand, staring glumly at the VanCam website.....
