R! O! S! E!  ROSE! ROSE! ROSE

Oct 23, 2006.  It is official, Chris Rose is the NEW YORK JETS of XC Ski racing.  Chris had a strong first half of the Carnival of Sins, and hung on, despite a tiring defense, to win the second stage and capture the overall Carnival of Sins title.   An impressive pre-season win, that seems to set up a great season.  Chris had impressive drives in the first half.  The offense was firing on all cylanders.  Chris mutalated the Hill of Death. Then as the second half opened, it wasn't so much that the opposition got better, but rather, Chris allowed them to keep it close.  In fact, bookies across the ski community rejoyced, Rose was not able to cover the spread.   He hung on just enought to win.  The JETS often have pre-seasons like Rose.  They look strong with a balanced attack.  They usually open the season well, getting the true believers excited about a Namath-like finish to the season.   Then, injuries creep up.  Rivals get into mid-season shape.  The schedule gets tougher. And, mother nature wreaks havoc with playing conditions.  As crunch-time approaches, the pressure in the media hot-bed proves to be unbearable.  Drives fizzle in the red zone.  Kicks spray wide.  Costly penalties occur at the most unopportune times.  There is always a glimmer of  hope, just up until the 2 minute warning.  Fans are exaspirated, but always looking on the bright side.  They love their JETS . Alas, there is always "next year."  Perhaps this is the year that Chris Rose becomes the Patriots.
