Woolly Bears, Ambassholes, Chainsaws and Lop-it training ![]() Rose rockets up the Akey Road tiptoeing through the wooly bears October 15- Autumn... Have you noticed the wooly bear caterpillars? Something to do with the bands of color on their bodies determines snowfall. Charlie looks for bees nests. If they are low to the ground, then a low snow year is ahead. Maybe North Korean nuclear fallout will provide us with ample snow crystal formation. Mitchellbeiner Skistadion got a work-over. First Jim and Chris dueled in a classic TT up Akey Road. Jim set a new PR and Chris was only seconds away from his. Yep, burn-out and overtraining are just around the corner... To cool down from the TT, Jim, Chris and Charlie fired up the Chainsaw, Tractor, Lopping shears and spraypaint. Every rock was painted orange, to be unmercifully extracted by Charlie's backhoe. Trees that dared to cast a shadow over the trails were exterminated; their cellulose fibers ripped to shreds. The trails are the best they have ever looked. This weekend the "Carnival of Sins" is scheduled to take place. Stage one is Friday evening at 4:30... meet 1/2 way up the Akey Rd. for a classic TT. Stage two is Charlie's Cyclocross race on Saturday. Do it on rollerskis if you want to impress the crowd. Finally, stage three begins at 10:30 am at the base of the HILL of DEATH in Peru. Be prepared for another skate assault up the beast. And, a word of caution while rollerskiing, please don't squish the wooly bears... 2006-10-17 09:26:17 GMT
