Yakki dha greetings. The celtic tradition of relating to countries as female is in contrast to the Germanic tradition of a 'fatherland' from the all-father Odin. So it was - and the tradition continues in Britannia, that Brigantia the goddess daughter of Morrigan and patron of cattle herders, milk maids, craftsmen and the high one and powerful one, had the great land of Brigantia named after her from Cheshire up to Dumfies ie much of northern england including Mersyside, Lancashire, Manchester,  Lake dristrict, Northumbria, Durham and Yorkshire etc. Other celtic nations had patron goddesses of a similar kind. Modern Britain has continued the tradition with 'Britannia'.
