...right before your eyes.
Just do it.

Well, the phone works, except for the 2, 5, 8, and 0 buttons.  I've thought of ways to get around that, but it involves keeping our old phone and would be quite involved and time consuming.  We only have two months left on our plan anyway, and we're not renewing it.  We're going to Verizon because everybody in the church has, and they're the ones we talk to the most.  That way we don't have to worry about burning up our minutes.

Not too much going on otherwise.  Last night I started to do a detailed cleaning of the church.  I couldn't believe how long it took me to do one item on my list.  I skipped walking yesterday, but I sure got my workout wiping down chairs.  There are about 150 of them, and I did about 125.  Hazel helped me with the rest.

Speaking of walking, just to update:  My cholesterol test is Monday (7/24/06).  So I've been walking an average of 3-4 miles a day (thanks to Jimmy for the inspiration--he does six a day).  I've lost 6 pounds so far--not a lot in the grand scheme, but it's a start.  At my heaviest, I was somewhere around 196, and now I'm 179.  Only 30-something pounds to go.  After I lost five pounds, I was at the store and I walked past the sugar.  Then I stopped, went back, and picked up a five-pound bag.  I hefted it and (trying not to look crazy) put it up by my stomach.  That's how much my body was carrying around.  That felt good!  So, on to the next five.

For someone who doesn't write much, you write a lot! i am pleased, encouraged, and fully agree with the idea of "common sense Christianity".Jesus walked among people to get his feet dirty with people and preached about the error of putting the form of religion above the religeous spirit (small s). I like your blog very much, Kate. I think Corrie Ten Boome's name was Corrie, not betty.Unless you mean her sister, whose name could be Betty, but I don't remember it. Love, Dad

Hi Dad,
I'm glad you like my blog!

Yes, I meant Betsy, her sister. Even though Corrie did the writing, Betsy seemed to be her inspiration, and she has inspired me.

The one instance that has always stuck in my mind was when Corrie and Betsy were out digging at one of the concentration camps they were at. Of course, they were severely malnourished and weak, and the effects of it were showing in their movements. The SS guards started making fun of Betsy, because she was faltering. Corrie became enraged and wanted to hit them with her shovel. But you know what Betsy did? She laughed. She said, "You know, you're right. I guess I do look pretty silly, don't I?" No offense, no hate, just being able to laugh at herself in such a time as that. Her response absolutely heaped coals of fire on the heads of the guards, even though it doesn't seem that was her intention.

That's one instance that stands out the most for me from Corrie's writings.
