I just want to make clear why I'm keeping this blog. First of all, it's fun. But I also am trying to keep my friends and family updated on our whereabouts, condition, recent activities, etc. Our closest circle is spread out all over the world, so I wanted to have a means to let people know what is going on with us. I recently had a couple people say to me, almost sheepishly, "Yeah, I was reading your blog." GOOD!!! That's the whole point. This isn't intended to be a private journal. If I had any interest in keeping one, I certainly wouldn't post it on the internet and then pass my address out! I guess this is more like "Kate's News Service". So anyway, if I put something on here, it's so it can be read by anybody.
Now, I wish that some of my family and friends would keep up their own blogs. They started them, but they never put anything in them! Like I said, they're scattered everywhere. It would be great to be able to know how everyone is doing. I like blogs because I feel like if you can't be with someone, at least a little update every now and then makes you feel more connected with them. Not saying every little detail has to be put in there, but at least a generalization of what's new.
Then I also like the nostalgia factor. Do you know how much I wish I had journals of day-to-day life from my ancestors? I WISH I could know how my predecessors acted, the rough times they went through, how many horses they had, things they said or thought about. I mean just life stuff. I wish I knew more about my g-g-grandmother Jesse. I have a picture of her, but no history. Was she a Christian? Who was her father? I love stuff like that. So, I'm keeping a record of my Christian life so I can pass it down to whoever might take an interest in it in the next century or whatever.
