I just need to vent here for a little bit.
I am so frustrated with my hair. I know this is not a life-and-death thing, but when you've been fighting something for as long as you can remember, it gets on your nerves after 20 years or so.
My hair is frizzy. But it's also straight. It's also wavy. How do you manage three different hair textures on your head at the same time? It's like dealing with someone with multiple personalities, and they all manifest themselves at once.
So I started this technique I read about in a book called "Curly Girl". It seemed right up my alley. Frizzy hair? Spent your life trying to get it to straighten out? Try this! Okay! Long story short, condition your hair like crazy, stop brushing it, and let the curl come out and scrunch it with gel after you wash it. Hey, I can do that. Oh, by the way, it will take about three weeks to see the total effect. Three weeks?!? Excuse me, I have a life to live. I do have to leave the house.
But, considering that I've been called everything from "Frizz" to "Cousin It" and am constantly being reminded that my hair "just doesn't look that great", I figured, hey, what's to lose? So I bought the ultra-mild shampoo, the conditioner with no dimethicone in it (like trying to find a needle in a haystack these days) so it wouldn't weigh the curls down, and found the perfect gel, and tried it for a few days. My hair definitely got wavy, but nothing more. Oh, and it's still frizzy.
So I went back and read the book. Three weeks to find out if I'm a "wavy girl" or a "boticcelli girl". And in the meantime, instead of looking frizzy and unkempt, I can be frizzy, unkempt, greasy and stringy.
So I brushed it out and came on here to vent.
I don't know what my next course of action is going to be. I am not a curly girl. I'm done with trying to "release my inner curl".
<SIGH> That's better.
