01.
Walking
The soft
shuffling and padding of her footsteps behind his were all the reassurance in
the world that he needed; each step confirmed just how much she trusted him.
02. Waltz
Every time she bore audience to a fight
between Ichigo and an enemy, Orihime found that the whole ordeal looked like a
strange waltz that banked dangerously close between life and death.
03. Wishes
He was too mature to believe in wishes, but
the day he found her blowing an eyelash from her fingertips and out towards the
setting sun, he realized that such childish whims were rather beautiful.
04. Wonder
Even when
he was aware that she knew he was staring at her from his spot in the
classroom, he couldn’t help but wonder why she continued to pretend like she
didn’t know; like she was perfectly happy with being unnoticed.
05. Worry
They always told each other not to worry about
their well-being, but the more they said it, the more they grew apart.
06. Whimsy
When he
had extended his hand towards her after his fight with the sixth espada, he
hadn’t really expected much; it had been more of a passing fancy; a whimsical
dream that it would be nice to feel the warmth of the person he had fought so
hard to save; he was left rather surprised when that small palm slid into his,
shaking and thankful.
07.
Waste/Wasteland
Hueco
Mundo was littered with grains of sand that enveloped despair and hatred; but
Orihime was the other end of the spectrum, a walking heaven; and he could not
allow breaths of tomorrow and smiles of retribution to wither away in this
nothingness; he had to save her and bring her back to grace his sorry excuse
for a world with her gift of life.
08.
Whiskey
Day to day
life did nothing to numb him; and whiskey only heightened his awareness of her
long absence and abandoned bones far beneath the earth‘s surface.
09. War
Orihime, he recognized early on, was a woman
he’d fight endless wars for, if need be.
10.
Weddings
She often
had dreamed up her fantasy wedding day filled with lace and frills, but the day
he died, her feverish fairytales did too.
11.
Birthday
Typically
she had a small celebration with only Tatsuki in tow, but the day a loud knock
sounded against her door and she found Kurosaki on the other side, was the day
she decided that birthdays were really wonderful things indeed.
12.
Blessing
As he laid
underneath the orange halo of her powers, brown eyes staring into gray, he
realized just how lucky he was to have such a special person to cry over him.
13. Biased
“You’re
biased!” Keigo yelled, dramatic tears streaming down his face as Ichigo took a
seat next to a very flustered Inoue.
14.
Burning
The burning of the sun against his skin did
nothing to diminish the inferno spreading through his limbs internally as
Ishida wrapped Inoue’s fingertips with his own.
15.
Breathing
He’d sit
beside her unmoving form until he could hear the soft hum of air as it bounced
inside her lungs and filled her soul with ambition; until then-
16.
Breaking
The soft,
bell-like sound of shattering glass, her hairpins, mirrored the sound of his
breaking heart as she fell to the ground in a beautiful free-fall.
17. Belief
“You’ll
come back to me,” She told him as he took a step towards the Senkaimon; not a
command and not a question, but a statement of fact and understanding.
18.
Balloon
Renji had nearly fallen over from laughter the
day Ichigo had been walking around school with a bright orange balloon to match
his hair; a gift that, had it been from anyone except her, would have been
popped the moment he had set eyes on it.
19.
Balcony
The strange places her mind went during the
most inopportune moments always seemed to amaze her, but for once, she was
thankful that she had been so obsessed with Romeo and Juliet because he looked
just like the man of Shakespeare’s fiction as he held his hand out to her with
a smile that, for the first time, didn’t seem out of place.
20. Bane
“It tickles!” She exclaimed through
kiss-marked lips; Ichigo frowned in annoyance and kissed her again, determined
to make her breathless and not amused by his sporadic nibbles.
21. Quiet
When life
returned to normal and school was back in session, Ichigo found her silence and
lack of smiles deafening; had his Orihime been left in the deserts of Hueco
Mundo after all?
22. Quirks
He hated
the strange foods she ate, but he absolutely adored her eccentricities the
most.
23.
Question
“Will you
love me?” He asked her through clenched teeth and fisted fingers, embarrassment
flooding his cheeks; Orihime’s watery eyes only softened at his naiveté.
24.
Quarrel
Rukia and
Renji stared in awe the first time they ever heard the golden couple argue; and
over aliens of all things.
25.
Quitting
The day
she stormed out with tears falling in her wake, telling him that she was done,
was the day he understood just how very much he had to stop her.
26. Jump
Holding onto her hand tightly, he glanced out
the sides of his eyes and smirked, “It’ll be cold,” he told her; Orihime
surprised him further as she led their leap into the night-cooled water with
nothing but a flush to cover their skin.
27. Jester
“Ishida is going to ask Orihime out
todayyyyyyyy!” Keigo said in a sing-song voice; later when Tatsuki found Asano
slumped against his desk with a busted lip
and bruised eye, she realized just how much Ichigo couldn’t take a joke.
28.
Jousting
Often
times Rukia listened to Renji and Ichigo banter with one another until the other
lost his cool and demanded a fight, but the day Renji brought Orihime’s name
into the conversation was the one time Ichigo simply walked away and left the
shinigamis staring at his retreating back.
29. Jewel
He was
rough, rowdy, vulgar, insensitive, clueless, demanding, hard-headed, and
selfish; Orihime, however, couldn’t see
anything but the rarest of treasures whenever she looked at him.
30. Just
“We’re
just friends!” Orihime said, her arms waving in front of her face as she tried
to discourage mocking from Rukia, who in turn noticed the slight flinch from
the orange-headed boy sitting close by.
31. Smirk
The only
signs that the two had done anything indecent in the school hallway were the
balled pink panties in his pocket and the large smirk on his proud face.
32. Sorrow
When he
found her in the rain with tears to match the downpour, he silently thought she
was beautiful when sadness dressed her skin.
33.
Stupidity
“I’m happy for you; really, I am,” She
murmured in a passing breath as she quickly exited the classroom, leaving the
stoic Ichigo to drown in the monsoon of the lie she had told in order to spare
him of his demons.
34.
Serenade
She never
sang, but the way she spoke against his neck each night in the dark of their
shared room coaxed him into a sleep like
the gentlest of lullabies.
35.
Sarcasm
Since the
death of his mother, Ichigo Kurosaki had been a poster-child for the definition
of sarcasm, but the day his ironic sense of humor made those orchid-colored
lips part in a gasp of torment, he quickly threw his hateful characteristic to
the ground and drenched it with a vulgar curse of regret.
36. Sordid
White-hot
anger and repulsion shot down his spine the moment Ulquiorra Schiffer reached
for her, like his lover, and said his farewell; from then on he would be the
only one reaching for her with that same longing expression.
37. Soliloquy
Shaking
hands formed together in a make-shift prayer as she bowed her head and whispered
his name over and over to the abandoned room, hoping beyond all hope that her
mantra would deliver her one love, “Ichigo-Ichigo-Ichigo-Ichigo-Ichi-”
38.
Sojourn
As he fell
from the sky, wind whistling through his hair and past his ears, he looked over
his shoulder, his eyes connecting with hers; and time ceased to exist.
39. Share
When they
had moved into the small apartment together, Ichigo had been thrilled at the
idea of sharing a bed with her; now he was more than educated on just how much
the edge of the bed wasn’t exactly comfortable.
40.Solitary
She was
used to being alone and never once did she speak to the surrounding walls out
of anger for her predicament, but the day he didn’t come home, she clawed at
the counter and screamed his name for all of Japan to hear.
41.
Nowhere
Once she
was home, safe and sound inside his arms, he made the resolution to never go
anywhere that he couldn’t have her follow.
42.
Neutral
“You are
to remain in the world of the living and help the Soul Society in the coming
winter,” the Head Captain told him; Ichigo bowed his head and smiled a bit to
himself as he mentally laughed at the idea of remaining in an unmoving spot
when she had been taken from him.
43. Nuance
He watched
shadows cascade over her slimming and surrendering frame, and her dead eyes
reminded him so very much of the hollows he had slaughtered in order to see her
just one more time.
44. Near
She was
close enough for him to see the column in her throat rise and fall with
strangled swallows and her lips buzz with anxiousness as he tilted his head and
cancelled out any space between their mouths in one, two, three labored
breaths.
45.
Natural
The way
people flocked to her seemed like a magnetic pull, and he couldn’t but
congregate with the rest of them.
46.
Horizon
While he
was busy looking behind at his past and what could have been, she was always
looking at the setting sun as if trying to decide what was the quickest way to
catch it.
47.
Valiant
“Ichigo is
so brave,” Orihime would quietly whisper to Rukia, who in turn smiled and
thought it ironic that if he was so very brave as Inoue was convinced, why was
he so terrified to be alone with the copper-haired girl?
48.
Virtuous
Orihime
always tried to live her life right and she always gave, gave, gave to
everyone; Ichigo wanted her to be selfish for once.
49.
Victory
All the
battles and wars that he had fought and won and bragged about were nothing in
comparison to the day she said, “I do.”
50. Defeat
He knew he
should have cried for her the moment he saw the light leave her eyes, but
instead, he cried for himself and for all the times he hadn’t told her what she
meant; never for all the life he would be forced to live without her would he
bury this regret.
