This is an exposé on real estate sharks but the direction has not exposed anything special in the film.
Father Nagesh is a teacher. Son Jeeva runs a book stall on the footpath. With his hard earned savings, Nagesh buys a place but then gives it to Jeeva to run his book shop. Jeeva goes about doing up his shop with enthusiasm when some people claim the land as their own. Thus Jeeva finds out that Nagesh has been cheated.
Jeeva is aware that his father would be exceedingly upset if he learns of how he has been cheated, so he tries to locate the real estate agent who cheated his father. How the hero makes the man pay for his treachery forms the rest of the story.
Such real estate frauds are taking place everywhere all the time. So one feels like congratulating director Subramaniam Siva for taking up this topic as his film's theme. But the way he has treated the subject is a real drag.
A song like manmadha rasa type, a situation where the hero gets to see the heroine bathing are all old stuff. But the court scenes where Jeeva lashes out at the cheating villain make for interesting viewing.
Seeing Pooja in a TV presenter role gives her no acting opportunity and it is very much like seeing a little child lost in a huge fair.
The usual Nagesh…usual villain…usual Karunaas. The only character with a difference that one can enjoy watching is of Hanifa.
"Vedhalam murungamaram" is a rollicking dance number. Music composer Dhina surprises with the contrasting melodious "Perundhil nee enakku jannaloram."
Cinematography by Ekambaram shows flashes of brilliance.
Since the interesting subject is not handled well by the director, the film is a half boiled attempt.
'Pori' is a sorry one.
