No special touch by director Prabhu Deva

The weapon wielding action masala of Telugu has been recreated in Tamil with a sprinkling of chilli powder.

Prakashraj is the guru of gangsters and Vijay is a henchman in the group. Even when surrounded by 10 men, he can single handedly rout them all. Except when he has a weapon in his hands, Vijay is romancing and singing duets with Asin.

Police Commissioner Napoleon unearths a plot by Prakashraj to kill the CM and arrests him. Neither his wealth nor clout can secure Prakahsraj's release. But when his gang kidnaps Napoleon's daughter and tortures her, he gets released.

Napoleon's daughter throws a bombshell when she taunts Prakashraj that her father has sent in a police officer into his gang to destroy him. The already crooked mind of Prakashraj now becomes a crazy mind. The whole audience knows immediately that it is Vijay, so it is comical when the director tries to maintain that suspense. Of course, the rest of the story is how our hero vanquishes the villain.
There is no change in Vijay except in his hanky routine and khaki uniform. In romance, comedy and action, he has not disappointed his fans.

In a hero oriented story, Asin has tried her best to leave a mark. Asin's reactions when she learns Vijay is a pokkiri, deserves appreciation.

When Prakashraj is arrested and put in prison, he is not allowed to sleep. As a villain trying his level best to keep his eyes wide open to escape punishment, Prakashraj is full of rollicking comedy.

Vadivelu is a kung fu master who gets bashed up by Vijay's men and that is quite hilarious.

Mani Sarma's music to lyrics "maampazhama maampazham…" by Snehan is quite catchy. So is "dolu doluthaan…" V Prabhakaran's dialogues are striking in parts. How Napoleon handles paper, TV and media is very believable.

After fighting with a dozen goondas, it is a bit too much to see Vijay without a single scratch on his self.

There is no special touch by Prabhu Deva as director.

'Pokkiri' is an array of sickles and guns.
