IL2 Full Mission Builder Quickie Tutorial

Motto - If they're tight on my Tail, That's THEIR bad luck 'Cuz I know where they are Now!
Unfortunately, I don't know why, there seem to be a lot of people with bad luck!

IL2:Sturmovik is the new sim I've been flying(mostly on-line). I host games on 56K so I needed to create smaller missions. I also have collected some interesting ones for co-op play. If there's anymore information about them or credits or you are a creator of these and have problems or updates, just e-mail me.

HyperLobby Software - Creates a Meeting place for 150 to 400 Flight sim people. I usually hook up there for Dogfights and Co-operative missions for IL2. Codename ZoomBoy or *TBAS_ZoomBoy

Main Tutorial

Okay, one question,where is the FMB located at and what do I have to do? That type of stuff is confusing for me. Thanks John.
>>>

Intro to FMB
On the Main Menu in IL2 is the Full Mission Builder(FMB)
Click on that and you'll get a light blue screen

With File | Load...
you can load any mission
With View | Object
you can see a list of stuff you can add to the map

To Move or Look around on map =====
+ Basic Map moving requires a simple LEFT click and drag
+ On the Left-hand side there's a slider bar that zooms the map in and out
+ On the Right-hand side and Bottom there are standard window moving bars
+ To get a Close up of an area (This is bit Tricky )
- Hold Down the SHIFT key and start to Drag the Mouse around
- A box should appear and the area inside the Box will be zoomed out when you Release the mouse button

Squirral usually wants to swap in P-39s =======
1) Click on View | Object to see the Object Info Thingy
2) Click on any of the blue or red nodes that look like escorts
3) The Object Info Thingy should change to THREE Panels (Type, Properties,Waypoint)
On the Type panel is where you can see the current plane and when you change the name on the list you will change the type of plane that is flying

To add TOTALLY NEW planes and their flight paths =======
1) RIGHT-CLICK on the map you've loaded and choose UNSELECT to Make sure you've cleared any node or flight path
2) Choose on the Object Info Thingy the plane you want to add
3) While holding down the CTRL key, LEFT CLICK on the 1st spot you want the plane to start from. And then CTRL + Left-Click on the next waypoint.
If you want it to be a take-off or landing site, make it close to the way-point and then on the Object Info Thingy/WayPoint Panel you can change the Type: from Normfly to Landing or Takeoff. It will automagically link up to the nearest runway.

To delete a node ====
+ Click on it
+ Hit the Delete key on your keyboard

To test it ===
The FMB has a File | Play option but I prefer to test co-ops by creating my own server
At the IL2 Main Page
- Click on MULTIPLAY
- Click on CREATE NEW SERVER
- Click on the list of GAMETYPE
and Choose COOPERATIVE
and change the Max. Players to the highest(16)
- Then click on CREATE
On the next screen you can choose the Mission + Difficulty + then click LOAD

Making sure it's co-operative ===
It's very dependent on a few things for co-op
1) Yes, It has to do with where you place the mission. Save it(File | Save As..) to the one of the cooperative folder's (1 or 2) or you latercan create another folder BELOW the coop folder.
2) make sure in the Object Window / Properties Panel that the Player check-box is Blank/UNCHECKED. If it's checked, it makes the mission act like a single player.
3) And when testing under the Patch 1.04, remember to keep it either ALL Air-starts or ALL take-offs for the Human flyables. And then in the "Difficulty" options click on the appropriate Takeoff & Landing Option
4) Test it the way I recommend.

Changing the Flying conditions ===
Under Edit | Conditions
You can change the mission Start time and the Weather conditions and clouds.
Kewl!!!

The End

This is a quick tutorial on the FMB. Just load a map and play around on it. Nothing will be hurt unless you save over something. Once you take an hour to learn it, you'll never have to wait for some kind soul to give you EXACTLY what you need.

You will become legendary.
There's also a web guide - maybe more technical than necessary - at Sturmovik Technika

Enjoy
