Yyteri beach ultimate 2008

The YBU 2008 for The Dark side started on Friday when team arrived to Yyteri bit by bit. Friday night was spent in playing Frisbee golf (Marko L won), throwing disc on a beach and chilling in front of our cabins.

In the pool face we had games against Flump (from England), Pispalan into ja pinnistys and Albiinovalaat (in that order). The first game against Flump was typical first game: lots of mistakes and nervous plays. The game was close but in the end we were able to take the win with the goals 5 to 3. In the match against PIP, our old enemy, we played a lousy game. We let PIP score two easy goals in the beginning and we could recover from that since we had troubles with PIP's zone defense. We were 2-3 goals behind trough out the game and finally we were beaten 4 to 6. In the last pool match we were against the pools favorite Albiinovalaat who had already crushed two other teams in the pool. We started the game well and made the first goal. The game was really close all the way to the end. We were able to play our own game against much tougher zone defense than what had caused us troubles in PIP game and in the same time Albiinovalaat were having troubles with finishing. We were leading the game most of the time but in the end our opponent with some national team experience was able to turn the game for their advance in goals 6-4.

The last match of the pool was PIP against the Flump. The Flump won the game by one goal so the us, Flump and PIP had all won one and lost two games. We had the best goal difference since we had lost only by two goals to Albiinovalaat. For our disappointment the order in that case was decided by the goal difference in our matches against each other so in that case we dropped to third with 0 and PIP was second wit +1. So losers cup for us this year...

In the first round we were playing against Barry B. Benson. That game went slightly in our control and we had nice 7-4 victory out of that one. In this point the fancy SMS based result system collapsed and we had some confusion when and where the next game would be. After a while we found our self playing against En tiennyt että hän oli hän in a very though game with long points. In the end our opponent was able to take the match by one goal (5-6), the deciding factor must have been the sports drinks the other team was using.

On Saturday night the sauna was as crowded as usual. In the sauna Thomas got all exited and was singing some Finnish Christmas songs with some random dudes. After the sauna we had Hanna's birthday party and barbeque in our huts. After a cake, sausages and a few beers we made a visit to beach party.

Sunday morning our team was feeling good and some were up much earlier than I have expected. In the morning game we were playing against six tired guys from Oulu (meaning Wisquitos) and we crushed them 10 to 5. In the last game for the places 21 and 22 we faced Spiderpigs. That game was again close one but luckily for us the spiderpigs had they aim for the long ones adjusted on Saturdays speeds and lots of throws to goal were couple meters too long. In this game Tero showed the tournaments most spectacular dive: head first in the sand. The disc got slightly modified during the dive and we had to change the game disc. It was nice to end the tournament in such a good game especially when we won it 7-5 (or something like that). We finished the tournament with a run to the sea, sauna and meal in hesburger.

The final placing was 21^st and we lost 3 games and won 4. Weather was good trough out the tournament (Asko's forecast were wrong) and at least one of our players turned red while most of us just got a nice tan.
