Despite the best efforts of USN and other NATO forces in the area, it now appears that several Red Russian ballistic missile submarines managed to escape the blockade and reach the pack ice of the Arctic Sea.  Following this grim development, a spokesperson for the Red Russian Leadership demanded the unconditional withdrawal of all NATO forces from the region.  If NATO fails to comply, all NATO capital cities will be destroyed by submarine launched nuclear missiles.

Following an emergency meeting of the U.N. General assembly, the U.N. Secretary General declares the Russian civil war to be an "internal problem" a resolution ordering NATO to cease hostilities "in the name of peace" is passed.

Facing the possibility of Nuclear War and waning public support for continued US involvement in the Barents Sea, the US President orders the US Navy out of the region.
