For our Spring Service Project, the troop voted on using our cookie money to purchase
3 new flags for Fire Station 58, for the flag pole and trucks.

We had a special presentation ceremony on May 24, 2004.  The flag presentation ceremony was attended by many high ranking Officers from Orange County Fire Department, including the Fire Chief Carl Plaugher and Deputy Chief Thomas Lyon.  A representative from our Orange County Commissioners Office and a representative of the service team for the Green Oaks service unit were also in attendance.
We were privileged to have the Orange County Fire Department Honor Guard retire the flag, with 4 troop members as part of the Color Guard.  The flag was saluted by the Fire Chief and presented to troop member Rebecca H. during the ceremony.  Rebecca had the idea for this service project, after noticing that one of the flags on a Station 58 truck was looking a bit worn.  The girls loved the idea of showing our appreciation for their service by donating new flags.
Fire Station 58 has had a special place in our troop, as they were our very special guests during our Bronze Award Project, the Brownie Health & Safety Fair in February of 2003. We will retire the old flags with honor at Camp Mah-Kah-Wee in August.
We had our Cookie Celebration at Build-A-Bear, and the troop decided to make a special mascot for Station 58 while we were there.  We named him Sparky and presented him to the Station during the ceremony, along with some familiar favorite Girl Scout Cookies we saved for the event.
Station 58 treated the girls to hot dogs, cake, and sodas after the ceremony.  We had some fun singing Girl Scout camp songs for the Fire Chiefs!
Special Thanks to the Orange County Fire Department Battalion Chief Walker for setting up and hosting such a memorable event for the girls.  We appreciate all the time and effort he took to arrange having all the very important Fire Department and other County representatives present.
