Many hieroglyphics have proportions based on the golden ratio. In the above picture, the letter "h," represented by a courtyard, is in fact the golden spiral. The use of the hand and foot as hieroglyphics shows that the Egyptians were aware that the body was proportional to the golden ratio in many ways. Other symbols, such as "p" (a mat) and "sh" (a pool) are golden rectangles. The Egyptians used the golden ratio in their writing to make it easier for everyone to write in the same proportions.

The scarab is an important symbol in Egypt as well. It can be encased in the golden rectangle. If lines are drawn extending from the center of the beetle, the golden rectangle can be further divided.

The Eye of Ra is an important symbol for the ancient Egyptians. It symbolizes the sun god, Ra, the most important of their gods. It can be seen on the sarcophogus of the dead. This is so that the dead can see into the underworld. The Eye of Ra can be encased in the golden rectangle, considered holy by the ancient Egyptians.
