Module Objectives
Session 5
At the completion of this course session, the student will be able to:
- Comply with universal precautions and body substance isolation (BSI). (A-1:
1-4.10)
- Use universal precautions and body substance isolation (BSI) procedures
during venous cannulation. (P-2:1-4.13)
- Demonstrate cannulation of peripheral veins for the infant, child and adult
patients. (P-2:1-4.14)
- Demonstrate preparation and techniques for obtaining a blood sample. (P-2:
1-4.15)
- Serve as a model for disposing of contaminated items and sharps. (A-3:
1-4.12)
- Perfect disposal of contaminated items and sharps. (P-3:1-4.16)
- Describe the appropriate fluid type (hyper-, iso-, hypotonic) indicated for
various patient conditions based on fluid types not local protocol. (C-1:1.-4.9)
